Now there are more and more users using the ADSL Broadband Network, and the maintenance of the ADSL equipment has become a problem that cannot be ignored. Only by maintaining it well can you not only save your "Broadband Journey", but also prolong your life.
Routine Maintenance
The necessary routine maintenance for ADSL equipment can not only reduce unexpected faults, but also ensure smooth network and improve the service life of the equipment. The main routine maintenance includes the following:
1. ADSL Modem is generally recommended at a temperature of 0 ~ 40 ℃, the relative humidity is 5% ~ 95% of the work environment, and maintain a stable, clean and ventilated working environment. Generally, the voltage range that ADSL Modem can adapt to is V ~ Between v.
2. ADSL Modem should be far away from power cords and high-power electronic devices, such as power amplifier devices and High-Power speakers.
3. Make sure that the ADSL telephone lines are connected reliably without faults or interference. Try not to connect them directly to the telephone extension and other devices, such as a fax machine. The extension can be connected through the separator's "PHONE" port (figure 1 ).
4. in the event of thunderstorms, you must unplug the power supply and all connections of the ADSL Modem to avoid lightning damage. It is best not to use the ADSL Modem in hot weather for a long time, to prevent ADSL Modem from faults and burning down due to overheating.
5. Do not place any heavy loads on the ADSL Modem. Keep it dry and ventilated, avoid water flooding, avoid direct sunlight, or place the ADSL Modem on the computer's trunk box.
6. Clean the ADSL Modem regularly. Use a soft cloth to clean the dust and dirt on the device surface.
7. regularly unplug the power cables, network cables, splitters, and telephone lines (junction boxes) connected to the ADSL Modem and check them for poor contact and damage, if the telephone line connector is oxidized, it should be replaced in time.
Typical Faults
During the use of ADSL equipment, it is inevitable that such a fault will occur. By analyzing the fault, we can not only find a solution, but also better maintain the ADSL equipment. Here, we use the SmartAX MT800 ADSL Modem (Figure 2) as an example to describe how to troubleshoot and maintain the device:
1. If the Power light is not on, it indicates that there is a problem with the Power connection. You must use a dedicated Power adapter and a safe and reliable Power outlet.
2. If the ADSL Link/Act light is not on, it indicates that the telephone line is faulty. Check the telephone line connection to see if there is any disconnection. If the Link/Act light is usually flashing, it indicates that the telephone line signal is unstable.
Tip: If you are installing China Telecom ADSL, you can call China Telecom's 112 fault station and ask professionals to help you troubleshoot the line faults.
3. If the LAN Link/Act light is not on, it indicates that there is a problem with the network connection or Nic. First, check whether the network connection is normal, and then open "Device Manager" in Windows to check whether the NIC device is abnormal. If the device name is preceded by "?", Or "!" Mark, you can consider re-installing the NIC driver or open the chassis to another slot to install.
Software maintenance
Because the ADSL Modem implements virtual dialing through software, and the NIC, external USB interface, and internal ADSL Modem must install the driver, therefore, software maintenance is also essential for them.
1. we recommend that you do not install multiple PPPoE virtual dialing software. You can use one or two types of dialing software, such as WinPoET and RASPPPoE, in Windows XP, you can also use the built-in virtual dialing software.
2. for ADSL users, "automatically obtain IP addresses" is generally used for dial-up connections. If the ISP has no requirements, the DNS server can use "automatically obtain DNS server address.
3. when dialing, the speed is slow or the system stops responding in the "connecting to the WAN micro port (PPPoE)" window, generally, you can restart the computer to solve these problems.
4. we can regularly download the latest drivers for the ADSL Modem and host NICs connected to the "Ethernet" port from their official website for installation, to maximize their performance.
