In previous articles, we have explained the content of the IPv6 protocol. We should remember that in IPv6, there are unicast IPv6 routing protocols and IPv6 multicast routing protocols. Now let's take a look at the latter. What content does the IPv6 Multicast Routing Protocol contain? Let's take a look at the following content.
IPv6 Multicast Routing Protocol
IPv6 provides rich multicast protocol support, including MLDv1, MLDv1 Snooping, PIM-SM, PIM-DM 。
IPv6 Multicast Routing Protocol 1 MLDv1
Multicast Listener Discovery for IPv6 (MLD) is an IPv6 Multicast listening and Discovery Protocol. MLD is an asymmetric protocol and an IPv6 Multicast member (host or router) the Protocol behavior is different from that of the IPv6 multicast router. It aims to enable the IPv6 router to use MLD to discover the appearance of the IPv6 multicast listener directly connected to it, collect and maintain group members, and provide collected information to IPv6 routers so that multicast packets are transmitted to all links with IPv6 listeners 。
The IGMPv2 of MLDv1 and IPv4 are basically the same. There are two differences:
1. The Protocol packet address of MLDv1 uses an IPv6 address;
2. The name of the departure message is different. MLDv1's departure message is Multicast Listener Done, and IGMP's departure message is IGMP Leave 。
IPv6 Multicast Routing Protocol 2 MLDv1 Snooping
MLDv1 Snooping is basically the same as IGMPv2 Snooping of IPv4. The only difference is that the Protocol packet address uses an IPv6 address 。
IPv6 Multicast Routing Protocol 3 PIM-SM
PIM-SM is called protocol-Independent Multicast Routing Protocol Based on Sparse Mode. It uses potential unicast routing to provide reverse path information for the establishment of multicast tree, it does not depend on specific unicast routing protocols 。
The PIM-SM of IPv6 is basically the same as that of IPv4, the only difference is that the Protocol packet address and multicast data packet address both use IPv6 address 。
IPv6 Multicast Routing Protocol 4 PIM-DM
The PIM-DM is a protocol-Independent Multicast mode in intensive mode 。
The PIM-DM of IPv6 is basically the same as that of IPv4, the only difference is that the Protocol packet address and multicast data packet address both use IPv6 address 。
IPv6 Multicast Routing Protocol 5 PIM-SSM
PIM-SSM uses a part of the PIM-SM technology to achieve the SSM model. Because the receiver has known the specific location of multicast source S through other channels, so SSM model does not need RP nodes, do not need to build RPT tree, the source registration process is not required, and MSDP is not required to discover multicast sources in other PIM domains 。
