Factors affecting the stability of Wireless Networks

With the rapid development of wireless LAN, the application of wireless LAN in home, small and medium-sized offices and enterprises has been greatly developed. However, due to the limitations of the wireless LAN technology, users often encounter some common problems when deploying a wireless LAN, and the stability of the wireless network bears the brunt.

In the actual operating environment, some unexpected factors may directly lead to a sudden decrease in the network performance of the wireless LAN, in addition, wireless applications cannot run stably for a long time. In practice, there are many factors that affect the stability and connection speed of wireless signals. The following are some points:

(1) band interference:

When the wireless network is running, interference from other wireless devices will seriously affect stability. When we release a wireless network, we will select a frequency band. Theoretically, too many wireless networks in the same frequency band will seriously affect the signal strength, that is to say, if your home uses the same wireless signal frequency band as your home's wireless signal transmitting frequency band, the two wireless networks will be affected to some extent. Multiple APs and multiple wireless routers do not interfere with each other as long as the SSID name and frequency band are different, which naturally does not affect your data transmission. Interference occurs when too many wireless networks exist in the same frequency band. Therefore, changing a signal transmission frequency band through a wireless router is a good method when the network is unstable. Other interference sources should also be considered. The most common one is RF interference. For example, a microwave oven is suddenly opened in the wireless LAN area, or other wireless devices in the same frequency band are suddenly running.

(2) network physical architecture:

The placement of wireless devices in the entire wireless network is also a major factor that determines the stability of wireless signals.

Generally, the wireless router should be placed in the middle of the room, regardless of the signal coverage or transmission speed. Because the signal of the wireless transmitting antenna on the router is in a circular range, if the wireless router is placed in a corner of the room, half of the space is wasted, naturally, the coverage of wireless signals is seriously affected, and the range of wireless networks is also changed from the entire circle to half a circle by default, greatly reducing the wireless performance. The corner of the wall in the room where the wireless network is located will also affect the transmission of wireless signals. Therefore, avoid the corner when designing the wireless network and the placement of devices.

In addition, changes in the physical structure of the network cannot be ignored. For example, the sudden emergence of large obstacles or the movement of people between the Wireless AP and the wireless client may become factors affecting stability.

(3) DHCP packet:

Experienced users know that the DHCP service can help us automatically allocate IP addresses of computers on the network. However, in actual use, DHCP can cause network instability, for example, if the IP address is obtained again after the lease, other computers in the network are using the IP address, or DHCP information is frequently negotiated between the computer and the wireless router.

In fact, these DHCP packets are completely unnecessary. For home users, there are not many computers in the network. We can completely reduce DHCP packets by manually setting network parameters such as IP addresses.

A friend once told me that the wireless network in his house was unstable. Later, no DHCP was needed to directly specify an IP address and no longer dropped.

(4) network speed setting is too high:

Nowadays, wireless networks are very popular. Due to mutual interference between wireless networks in the same frequency band, 13 frequency bands are not enough. How can this problem be solved? Generally, wireless routers have the function of Automatically Selecting the frequency band. If not, you can change the working mode of your wireless device from 802.11g to 802.11b. Although the speed is reduced, it brings stability benefits. Therefore, reducing the transmission speed can make our wireless network more stable.

(5) Unauthorized use of wireless devices:

If the devices in the wireless network are not encrypted, the nearby users may be able to search for wireless devices and use them illegally without knowledge, in this way, the speed and stability of the wireless network are affected. In this case, you need to configure encryption measures for the wireless devices in the entire network.

Summary:

Wireless signals and transmission speeds are constrained by many objective and external factors. How to maximize the stability and transmission speed of the wireless network is the topic that every user is most concerned about. Theoretically, it is inevitable that the impact factors will be completely avoided. However, as long as you gradually eliminate these factors, we believe that you will not be able to enjoy surfing on the wireless network.
