The new Year is coming, 2006 is the years of the dog, we together to draw a cartoon dog's desktop map to the new year to add a little happy breath!
Design idea: First use fireworks vector path tool to outline the puppy. It is then filled in a variety of different ways. Finally, find a picture of the landscape, using fireworks filter tool to deal with it as a puppy image background. The end of the article provides the original document for everyone to download reference.
1. Open Fireworks and create a new 1024x768 image with the background color set to white. Because of the larger image, we will display the ratio of the image to 66% size, as shown in Figure 1.

2. Use the Ellipse tool on the toolbox to draw two ellipses, as shown in Figure 2. Where the stroke size is set to 6, and the stroke type is set to soften the circle.
Figure 2 Plotting two ellipses
3. Select the two ellipses and select Modify | combined paths | Union to combine two paths to get the image shown in Figure 3. The goal of this step is to outline the face of the dog.

4. Use the Pen tool to properly add some anchor points to the path, and then adjust the face appropriately by adjusting the anchor's joystick, as shown in Figure 4.

5. Use a similar approach to outline other parts of the dog, as shown in Figure 5. Note here that we'd better use the oval tool, the rectangle tool, and the pen tool provided in the Toolbox to get a rough outline of what needs to be sketched, instead of using the Pen tool to click on the sketch, as the pen tool hits the edges too far. If economic conditions permit, you can buy a digital board so that it can be easily plotted.

6. After outlining the outline, the next step is to fill it. For different parts of the dog we are going to fill in a variety of different colors. As shown in Figure 6. Among them, the nose, ears and tail and other parts of the color to fill deep, and the body and other parts of the color can be slightly lighter. Here the nose's fill color is #ce8500, the ear and the tail's fill color is #e6b300, body's fill color is #fee277, the foot color is #fef8aa.

7. To make the dog's image have light and shade contrast, here's a trick: Copy the drawn vector path, and then make the new path of the copy smaller, and set its stroke to none. Then the original path of the color of the depth, so that the image will have the contrast effect of light and shade. As shown in Figure 7, the result of the original path is made after copying the face of the dog.

8. Similar adjustments are made to other parts of the dog in the same way. In order to achieve better results, some parts can also be adjusted using a gradient fill, and then adjust the order of each part to get a more intense cartoon image as shown in Figure 8. At this point, we can see the dog's face, tail, nose and other parts have a shadow effect, as shown in Figure 8.
Figure 8 Add some lighting effects to the image
9. Below the dog also lacks the eye, we only need to draw an ellipse, then uses the knife tool to cut out a line segment, uses the scaling tool to adjust it suitably to be possible to get the dog's two small eyes. As shown in Figure 9.

10. The dog is basically finished, but it can be properly decorated, such as a small face, with a small mouth. In addition to the body of the combination of not very good parts to adjust to get the image shown in Figure 10.

11. Finally we add a bubble to the dog, showing the cute dog. Here we can use the Automatic Shape panel text Bubble tool. Drag it directly to the canvas and resize it using the Zoom tool. You can get an image of the bubble in the diagram shown in Figure 11.

12. What's more interesting is that we add a small "fart" to our dog, and we also need to use a combination of paths, we draw 4 ellipses and a rectangular box and place them in the position shown in Figure 12.

13. Select the four ellipses and rectangles and select Modify | Combine paths | Union to combine the paths into a special shape, and then set the fill color to white, as shown in Figure 13. It's like a dog with a fart, isn't it funny?

14. Finally, we want to finish the desktop creation of the last step, you can find a better picture of the scenery. Select File | Import and then locate the picture that is set to the background, and click OK. You can import the background image by clicking the mouse on the canvas, as shown in Figure 14.

15. Right-click, select "Arrange" | "Move to last" so that our dog desktop is ready, as shown in Figure 15.

16. Using the Export Wizard, export the image as a JPG file, and then right-click the mouse on your desktop to select Properties | desktop, and in the Browse folder, select the file you just exported. The new year, with his own cartoon dog to do their own computer desktop, is not very happy ah. As shown in Figure 16.

Summary: In this example, we use fireworks as a vector image drawing tool, using its path combination command to draw cartoon, also achieved good results. In learning fireworks, the various combinations of its vector tools are very useful, learn the path of the Union, drilling and other commands to help us draw a variety of edges of the image. In addition, in the contrast of the images, we also use the technique of duplicating the layer and changing the size and color, so that we can make the image have a stereo effect. Mastering these tips is useful for creating a skilled use of fireworks. original File Download
