Excel Cell Manipulation Tips

1. Merge rectangular areas: Excel XP allows you to merge any cell within a rectangular area by selecting the cells you want to merge, and clicking the Merge and center button on the Formatting toolbar. All selected cells are merged into one, and the data is placed in the middle of the cell.

Note: Excel XP only puts the data in the upper-left corner of the merged area into the merged cell. To do this, text such as an input caption cannot be broken across several cells, or a portion of the data will be truncated during the merge.

2. Quickly set borders: Excel cells do not have borders by default, and Excel XP's border tool is improved to quickly set properties such as border and line, color, and weight for cells. Right-click the Excel XP toolbar and select Borders on the shortcut menu to open the toolbar. You can quickly apply the line styles and colors that appear when you press the Draw Border Grid button and drag through a range of cells with your mouse. You can quickly erase all cell borders by pressing the erase Borders button in the toolbar and dragging through a range of cells. Tutorial

3. Quick name: Excel XP worksheet cells all have their own default names, such as B6 for column 2nd, line 6th cell. If you want to name a cell "payroll", just select the cell. Then click the Name box to the left of the formula bar to enter a new name for the cell. If you want to name a range of cells, just select the area you want to name, and then follow the methods described above.

4. Fixed active cell: When a cell is selected, hold down the CTRL key and click the cell again with the mouse, where a solid wireframe appears. When you enter data, the active cell does not move, still in place. This is useful for situations where you need to repeatedly enter data for trial calculations.

5. Quick cell Positioning: If you want to navigate to a specific cell in a large worksheet, you can use the following two methods: Press F5 to open the Locate dialog box, enter the address of the cell to be positioned in the References field, and click OK. You can also use the mouse to click the Name box to the left of the formula bar to enter the address of the cell you want to locate.

6. Hide cell values: If you need to hide the values in a cell, you can select the cells that contain the values you want to hide. Click Cells on the Format menu, open the cell format → number tab, select the Custom option under the Category list, delete the code already in the Type box, and then "OK" by typing ";;" (three semicolon). After that, you can see the hidden values in the formula bar whenever you select a cell that has been hidden by the value.
br> 7. Cell Links: When you make a data comparison, you need to set some of the data in multiple worksheets to appear in one place. You can put a piece of data into the Clipboard, select the target cell, open the Paste Specific dialog box, and click the Paste Link button to link the target cell to the source data. As soon as you modify the source data, the data in the target cell changes. You can display multiple data links on a single worksheet by repeatedly doing so.
