Network Management combat: Completely replace the network card from potential conflict

It is believed that most home users will prefer to use the Windows XP operating system, but the Windows 2000 operating system can still be seen in many office-used computers. In the recent network management maintenance, the author after a long time careful comparison and pondering, found in the Windows 2000 system for network card device replacement operation and Windows XP system has not exactly the same place, this article will be the author in this regard the findings listed for your reference!

Unit LAN has a workstation, has been installed using the Windows 2000 operating system, has recently found that the workstation can not access the Internet, so through the device replacement method to troubleshoot network, and finally found that the network card devices do not know what the reason for the damage. Reluctantly, the author had to replace the network card equipment, to the market to buy a piece of the old network card device model exactly the same new network card, and then according to the requirements of the network card instructions to install the new network card correctly to the Windows 2000 system workstation. Before the specific installation of the new network card, the author first right click on the system desktop "My Computer" icon, from the shortcut menu that appears, you perform the Properties command, open the System Properties setting window for the local computer, click the Hardware tab in the window, and click the Device Manager button in the corresponding label page. Open the system's Device List window; Expand the network adapter project in the List window, right-click the device subkey for the NIC below the item, perform the Properties command from the pop-up right-click menu, open the Properties Settings dialog for the NIC device, and click the Driver tab in the dialog box. Go to the label page shown in Figure 1, click the "Uninstall" button in the tab page so that the computer system will automatically remove the old NIC driver from the system completely, so that the old NIC driver will not conflict with the new NIC driver. Then I opened the computer chassis shell, the installation of the old network card installed in the computer down, and carefully put the new network card device correctly inserted into the corresponding slot in the motherboard, and then connected to the computer power, so that the Windows system automatically identify the new network card devices have been installed, followed by the Driver Installation Wizard interface prompts, gradually completed the network card driver installation operation, at the same time on the network card related to the parameters of the correct settings, and finally the connectivity of networks tested, the results found that after the replacement of the new network card device workstation can now access the Internet page, However, the speed of Web page opening is very slow, which indicates that there is still a problem with the replacement operation of the NIC device. Figure 1

In view of the slow speed of the Internet, the author takes a series of measures to deal with the problem, including changing the installation slot of the network card device, replacing other network card devices, etc., but these measures can not solve the problem of slow network access smoothly; In the basic elimination of the network card equipment itself and the network card and the system is not compatible with the situation, the author after careful access to the relevant information and carefully observe the phenomenon of failure, that the above fault phenomenon is mostly caused by software factors, one may be the driver of the network card and other applications exist conflict, Another possibility is that an error occurred during the installation of the NIC driver. To this end, the author intends to remove the newly installed NIC device, then reinstall the network card device, but when the author entered the Control Panel window of the local computer and double-click the Add Remove Program icon in the window, I found that the program list box, in addition to the new NIC driver that just installed, There is another driver for the NIC device, and a closer look, the driver is the old NIC driver that was previously uninstalled. Come here, the author thinks that the reason for the slow speed of the internet after the replacement of the new network card is probably caused by this factor; the previous old network card device can be said to be "shadow in the God is not", residue in the computer system, continue and the new network card device driver mutually "rob" resources, Ultimately, the drivers for the two network adapter devices are incompatible. In order to verify the author's analysis is correct, the author first in the Program list box to remove the old network card driver, and the new network card device driver retention, and then restart the computer system, and then the Internet Network Access test, the results found that the speed of the Internet quickly returned to normal; obviously, After replacing the new network card, the slow speed of the internet is caused by the old NIC device driver not being completely removed.

Here, the network failure has been resolved, but let the author always can not understand is that the author had already entered the Device List window, and opened the Card Driver tab page, the implementation of which the "Uninstall" command, the old network card driver removed from the computer system, then why we can also from the " Add Remove Programs List window to see the old NIC driver "Shadow"? later, the author in the Windows 2000 workstation system and the other device driver to uninstall, the results of the author can still be in the "Add Remove Programs" List window to see the corresponding device "shadow"; apparently, In the Windows 2000 Workstation system, performing a device-driven "uninstall" command from the Device Manager window does not achieve the goal of actually completely removing a device-driven file from the system, but only a temporary stop, which is quite different from the Windows XP workstation system.

Here's what you need to be aware of, when you replace the network card device under Windows 2000 Workstation system, you must first ensure that the old NIC device driver is completely removed; when the old NIC driver is completely removed, you can perform the "Uninstall" command of the NIC driver in Device Manager before entering the Add Remove Programs list box to find the old network card device "Shadow", then the "Shadow" of the network card also deleted, of course, we can also find the registry related subkeys to confirm the presence of "shadow" network card, once found that it exists, should not hesitate to remove it.

Tips: In addition to the process of replacing the network card device, there may be "shadow" network card devices, if we change the location of the network card installation slot, there may be "shadow" network card equipment. In general, when deleting a "shadow" network card device, we remove it directly from the Add Remove Programs List window. It can also be deleted in the system's Device Manager window, and we just need to open the system's Device Manager window and click the View/Show hidden Devices command in the window. The virtual NIC device can be easily removed from the system by displaying all the hidden devices in the system and then locating the virtual NIC device and then right-clicking it and then executing the uninstall command in the right-click menu.
