Using the items listed in the r I p message, the r I P host can exchange route information with each other. This information is stored in the routing table, and the route table retains one item for each known and reachable destination. Each destination table item is the lowest overhead route to that destination.

Note that the number of table items for each destination varies with the routing manufacturer. Manufacturers may choose to comply with the specifications, or they can "harden" the standards they consider appropriate ". Therefore, you may find that a vro with a special trademark stores up to four routes at the same cost for each destination in the network.

Each route table entry includes the following domains:
Destination IP address domain
Distance-Vector Measurement Field
Next Hop I P address domain
Route change flag domain
Route timer domain

Note that although RFC 1058 is an open standard that supports a large number of interconnected network address structures, however, it is a protocol designed by I e t f for Autonomous Systems in I n t e r n t. In this way, the Network Interconnection protocol is used for r I P.

1. Destination I P address domain
The most important information contained in any route table is the I P address of the destination to be known. Once an r I p router receives a data packet, it looks for the destination I P address in the route table to decide where to forward the packet.

2. Measurement Standard domain
The measurement field in the route table indicates the total consumption of packets from the starting point to a specific destination. The measurement in the route table is the total cost of the network link between the router and a specific destination.

3. Next Hop I P address domain
The next hop I p address field includes the I P address of the next vro interface on the destination network path. This option appears in the vro table if the network of the destination I P address is not directly connected to the vro.

4. route change flag domain
The route change flag indicates whether the route to the destination I P address has recently changed. This domain is important because r I p records only one route for each destination I P address.

5. Route timer domain
There are two timers associated with each route. One is the timeout timer and the other is the route refresh timer. These timers work together to maintain the validity of each route stored in the routing table. The route table maintenance process is described in Section 1 2. 2.
