Solution to local connection loss

Each time you need to modify the Internet parameters of a server or workstation, you must open the network and dial-up connection window before opening the local connection attribute setting window. If you cannot find the local connection icon one day, you cannot enter the network parameter settings window, so that you cannot modify the Internet parameters of the server or workstation as you like. So how can you quickly cope with the problem that the local connection icon cannot be found? I believe the methods below in this article can help you quickly retrieve the disappearing local connection icon!

  Check the NIC status

If the network adapter is abnormal or damaged, you may not see the "local connection icon" when you open the network and dial-up connections window ". To check whether the network adapter works normally, you only need to click the "Start", "set", and "Control Panel" commands in sequence. In the displayed control panel window, double-click the "System" icon, in the system property settings window that appears, open the "hardware" tab page, and then click the "Device Manager" button. On the hardware device list page that appears, double-click the NIC icon. On the NIC attribute settings page that appears, you can see that the NIC is in good or bad working status, as shown in figure 1.

If you find that the network adapter is not working properly, you can right-click the network adapter icon in the device list, run the "unmount" command from the shortcut menu, and then unplug the network adapter, and change a new slot, and then restart the computer to see, I believe that the system will be able to correctly identify the network card; once the network card is accurately identified, when you open the network and dial-up connection window again, the "local connection icon" may appear in front of you.

  Check whether related services are activated

Many individual users often disable system services that they are not familiar with or are temporarily unavailable to protect their servers from being damaged by hackers or illegal attackers, it is unknown that some system services will not be displayed properly once they are disabled. Therefore, when you cannot find the local connection icon, you can follow the methods below to check whether each related service has been enabled:

First, check whether the network connection service has been started. when checking the service, you can click "start", "program", "Management Tools", and "service" commands in sequence, in the system service list that is displayed, find the "Network Connections" option and double-click the option. In Figure 2 "service attribute setting" displayed, you can see the startup status of the service. If you find that the service is not started, you can click the drop-down button in the "Startup Type" setting item, select "automatic" from the drop-down list, click the "application" button, and then click the "Start" button to enable the "Network Connections" service again;

Then, check whether the remote process call service is started. Because the "Network Connections" service depends on the remote process call service, if the remote process call service is not enabled, the "Network Connections" service cannot be started normally. When checking whether the Remote Procedure Call service is enabled, you can find the "Remote Procedure Call Service" option on the System Service list page and double-click the option, in the displayed Service property settings page, you can see its startup status. If you find that the service has not been started, you only need to follow the previous steps to restart it;

Next, check whether the plug-and-play service is started. When installing the network card, the system must rely on the plug-and-play service to automatically identify the network card. if the service is not started, the system may not be able to recognize the network card, as a result, the local connection icon in the network and dial-up connection window cannot appear. When checking whether the Plug-and-Play service is enabled, you can find the "Plug and Play" option on the System Service list page and double-click the option, in the displayed Service property settings page, you can see its startup status. If you find that the service is not started, you only need to follow the previous steps to restart it.

  Check whether simple TCP/IP components are installed

If the Simple TCP/IP service component in the network service is not installed, the local connection icon may not appear in the network and dial-up connection windows. Therefore, if the local connection icon is lost, follow these steps to check whether the system has installed the Simple TCP/IP component:

Click Start, set, and control panel commands. In the open system control panel window, double-click Add/delete programs, in the settings window that appears later, click the "Add/delete Windows Components" tab and select the "Network Service" option on the corresponding tab page, click "details;

In the settings window shown in figure 3, find the Simple TCP/IP Service Project and check whether the check box is selected. If not, you must check the check box, click OK, and restart the computer system.
  

Check whether the DCOM permission settings are correct

The simulated permission of the System Distributed COM may also cause the local connection icon in the network and dial-up connection windows to disappear if it is improperly set. Therefore, to retrieve the disappearing local connection icon, you also need to follow the method below to check whether the system's DCOM permission settings are correct:

Click OK to open the Distributed COM Configuration Attribute setting window;

Next, click the "default properties" tab in the window. In the displayed figure 4 option settings page, check whether the "enable Distributed COM on this computer" project is selected, if this option is not selected, check the current check box;

Next, check whether the simulated permission is set to "anonymous" in the "Default simulated level" drop-down list box. If the permission is set to "anonymous, you must change it to an "ID", click "OK", and restart the computer system. In this way, the lost local connection icon may be displayed.

  Check whether the network neighbor is hidden

To prevent other illegal users from accessing shared resources in the LAN at will, many LAN users often hide the network neighbor function to prevent illegal users from finding a shared destination through the network neighbor window, in this way, the local connection icon in the "Network and dial-up connections" window may be "Implicated ". Therefore, checking whether the network neighbors are hidden is also an important way to find the lost "Local Connection" icon:

When checking whether the network neighbor is hidden, you only need to check whether there is a network neighbor icon on the system desktop. If the icon cannot be found, it indicates that the icon has indeed disappeared. In this case, you can re-display it on the system desktop using the following method:

Click Start or run commands. In the displayed system running dialog box, enter the system policy editing command poledit and click OK, open the policy editing window of the system;

In the edit window, click the "file" menu item in the menu bar and run the "open registry" command from the drop-down menu. In the window shown in figure 5, double-click the "local user" icon. On the Property setting page that appears later, expand the "Shell Interface" and "restriction" branches in sequence. Under the corresponding "restriction" branch, check whether the "Hide network neighbors" project has been selected. If yes, cancel the project and click "OK;

Finally, click the "file"/"save" command in the menu bar of the system policy editing window, and save the preceding parameter settings to the registry of the system. After restarting the computer system, you can see the network neighbor icon on the system desktop. When you open the network and dial-up connections window, the local connection icon will automatically reappear.

  Check whether existing connections are deleted.

If you enable automatic deletion of existing connections in the Group Policy editing window, the system's local connection icon may also disappear, so you can follow the steps below, to check whether the function of deleting an existing connection is enabled in the current system:

Click Start or run. In the displayed system running dialog box, enter the Group Policy Editing Command gpedit. msc, click OK to open the Group Policy editing window;

Expand the "user configuration" folder, "Windows Settings" folder, "Internet Explorer Maintenance" folder, and "connection" folder in the subwindow on the right of the corresponding "connection" folder, double-click "connection settings;

In the settings window shown in subsequent 6, check whether the "Delete existing dial-up connection settings" option has been selected. If yes, deselect it, click "OK" and restart the computer system. The local connection icon may appear again.
