Auto deploy is a convenient feature provided by vsphere 5.0, which means that you do not need to install the esxi file on the server. When an esxi host is started, the image file of the esxi host is directly loaded from the vcenter server to the host memory through the network.
To use auto deploy to install esxi 5.0, you must install many components on the server. First, make sure that vcenter Server 5.0 and vsphere client are installed. Then, install the auto deploy server and all its related components on the Windows Server 5.0 server that runs vcenter Server 2008, including the TFTP server, DHCP server, and vsphere powercli.
Auto deploy uses the vsphere powercli cmdlet to create a rule for allocating the image configuration file and host configuration file to the host. Simply put, the image configuration file defines the list of vsphere installation bundle (VIB) for the esxi host, and the host configuration file defines computer-specific configurations, such as network connection or storage settings.
