  Solve the Win XP print sharing problem

When searching for a shared problem, we first ping the print server from the workstation to determine that there is no problem with the network link.

Print sharing, like file sharing, is the first dual-function shared communication in a Peer-to-peer network, which requires the basic network components required for communication to be installed correctly, and then troubleshoot printer problems.

  Step One: see if the TCP/IP protocol on the dual computer is enabled for NetBIOS

Dual-function implementation sharing communication requires that the NetBIOS protocol be bundled on the TCP/IP protocol to resolve the computer name, so we want to see if the NetBIOS on TCP/IP is enabled.

1. Click Start-Control Panel-network connections.

2. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

3. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and first check to see if the IP you are setting is in the same network segment, and then click Properties.

4. Click Advanced-WINS.

5. Under NetBIOS settings, click Enable NetBIOS on TCP/IP, and then click OK two times.

6. Click Close.

  Step two: check to see if the "File and print Sharing for Microsoft Network" feature is installed on the dual machine and make sure it is not blocked by Windows Firewall

In the General tab of the Local Area Connection Properties window above, see if File and Print sharing for the Microsoft network is installed, if not, do the following.

1. Click Start-Control Panel-network connections.

2. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

3. Click the General tab, and then click Install.

4. Click Services, and then click Add.

5. In the Network Services list, click File and Print Sharing for Microsoft networks, and then click OK.

6. Click Close.

Then see if the File and Printer Sharing feature is blocked by Windows firewall, as follows:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Windows Firewall.

2. On the General tab, make sure that the Do not allow exceptions check box is not selected (that is, do not tick).

3. Click the Exceptions tab.

4. On the Exceptions tab, make sure that the File and printer Sharing check box is selected (tick), and then click OK.

  Step three: see if the state of the Computer Browser service on the dual machine is enabled

To see if the state of the Computer Browser service on a dual machine is enabled, and if the state of the Computer Browser service is blank, the service is not enabled, and you need to start the Computer Browser service closed by using the following methods:

1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, and then click Manage.

2. Click Services and Applications-services.

3. On the right, right-click Computer Browser, and then click Start.

4. Close the Computer Management window.

  Step four: View the status of the guest (guest) account on the print server, see if the local security policy prevents guest from accessing the computer from the network, and view the local security policy "Null password user can only console log on" is enabled.

Typically, network print sharing is accessed using the Guest (guest) account as well as file sharing, because you must ensure that the Guest account is enabled and the password never expires, and that the local security policy does not deny the guest user. The local security policy "Null password user can only console login" is disabled.

XP system by default, the Guest account is disabled so that other machines on the LAN cannot access the machine's shared resources, so the Guest account must be enabled. The way to see if the Guest account is enabled is as follows:

1. Right-click My Computer on the desktop, click Manage, and open the Computer Management window.

2. Expand Computer Management (local)-System tools-Local Users and groups-users to locate the Guest account. If the Guest account has been deactivated, it will have a red fork on its icon.

3. Right-click the Guest account and click Properties to open the Guest Properties window. In the Guest Properties dialog box, remove the check mark for user cannot change password, password never expires, and account deactivated, and then click OK to enable the Guest account.

Note here, if only to remove the "account has been deactivated" tick mark, although the Guest account can now be opened, but "Password never expires" Check did not remove, after sharing a period of time, the system's password expiration function will use the Guest account suddenly can not use.

This is a reflection, such as the national day before the sharing of a good use of the printed, after the end of the strange phenomenon can not print, in fact, this is only the expiration of the password in time coincidence. Does anyone think the Guest account number is not a password? How will the password expire? In fact, the Guest account has a password, the password is "blank password."

If the local Guest account is enabled but the user is still unable to access the shared print provided by the print server, it may be that Group Policy does not allow the Guest account to access the print server from the network. Check to see if the local security policy prevents guest from accessing this computer from the network and the local security policy "Null password user can only console log on" is enabled by the following methods:

1. Click Start-Run, enter "Gpedit.msc" in "Open" and click OK to open the Group Policy window.

2. In the Group Policy window, expand Local Computer Policy-Computer Configuration-windows settings → security settings-local policy-User rights assignment, in the right column, locate the "Deny access to this computer from the network" item, open and remove the Guest account, and then open the "Access this computer from the network" item, Add the Guest account in the Properties window. This allows you to access the shared resources of the computer from the network using the Guest account.

3. By default, XP's local Security policy-user rights assignment, "Null password user can only console login" is enabled, no account of the null password can be accessed from the network, can only log on locally, and the guest default blank password, so must "disable" this setting.

  Step Five: see if a third-party firewall software is installed on the print server, and whether it masks the NetBIOS ports

If the print server is installed with network firewall software, it will also cause the user not to share the print service of the print service if it is improperly set up. We want to make sure that the network firewall software is open to the NetBIOS port.

For a newly built network-sharing print environment, maybe we'll go through the steps mentioned above. However, for a printing share of a company in use, various settings have been finalized, the probability of failure is relatively small, and most also appear on the XP computer that assumes the print server. In the best case, the print server also provides file sharing so that we can test whether or not the shared files are available to the print server to determine if the shared channel is normal.

If you can browse the shared file, the problem is that it appears on the printer, perhaps the printer name has changed, or the print driver has failed.

If you can normally use, now suddenly do not, and can not access the shared files, you should consider the issue of guest billing outage, as well as whether the print server installed network firewall software, and is not virus intrusion. If you are finally sure that the shared network is not a problem, check the printer-driven problem.
