Truth: blocking low-price ads may result in higher unit prices, but will not increase revenue.

Why?

Because the adsense advertising bidding system determines which advertisement wins, it considers the cost of ecpm for each thousand presentations, rather than the unit price. What is ecpm? Let's look at a formula:

Revenue = pv × CTR × unit price of advertisement = pv × ecpm

Ecpm = CTR × unit price of advertisement

Ecpm reflects the profitability of web pages, that is, the amount of income that each one thousand PVS can bring to you. For an advertisement, it is how much revenue this advertisement can bring to you if it shows one thousand times on your webpage.

The most ecpm in the bid, that is, the advertisement that can bring the most revenue to your pv will win and be displayed. The reason why you see low-price advertisements is that the unit price of these advertisements is low, but the click rate is high. Therefore, the ecpm is high, and the pv volume of these advertisements shows a higher revenue. Those advertisements with high unit prices will not be displayed due to low click-through rate, resulting in low ecpm.

Therefore, if you shield the so-called low-price advertisements, the advertisements with high unit prices will be displayed. You may see that the unit price of the advertisements has increased, but these advertisements have a much lower click rate, ecpm is also lower, so your income will not increase, but it is likely to decrease.

Therefore, when looking at advertising revenue, you should look at ecpm instead of the unit price of the advertisement. The unit price does not reflect the profitability of the advertisement. Blocking low-price advertisements is not a way to increase revenue.

To increase advertising revenue, the most effective way is to optimize the advertising position and size and increase the click rate. The best way to increase the unit price of advertising is to make high-quality content and attract more advertisements to your website. Fierce competition will inevitably lead to higher prices. Blocking advertisements only reduces the number of bidding advertisements, reduces competition, and ultimately damages your advertising revenue.
