HCD is an interactive interface for defining I/O configurations provided on z/OS, and HCM is more intuitive and ease-of-use than HCD, as an example of creating I/O subsystems, by comparing the process of configuring the I/O subsystem with HCM and HCD, Highlights how HCM makes it more reliable and convenient for system operators to configure their work.
HCD is an interactive interface for defining I/O configurations provided on z/OS, and unlike HCD, HCM is a step closer to intuition, ease of use, reliability, and this article describes the process of configuring the I/O subsystem using HCD and HCM, Demonstrates how HCM makes it easier and more reliable to configure the system operators.
Suppose you want to configure a DS8000, which contains 16 of the 2107-type control Unit, control the starting value of unit number 9000, and the offset value is 80,device as shown in the following table:

Table 1 Configuration Requirements
First, show the HCD configuration process.
Add a new control unit by using the Add or add like HCD, as shown in Figure 2:
Figure 2 Adding control unit
HCD Specifies one control unit number at a time, which needs to be added at least 16 times for the above configuration requirements.
Let's take a look at adding device:
Add one or more new device through the HCD Add or add like, as shown in Figure 3:
Figure 3 Adding device
When adding device with HCD, you can add multiple device number sequential device at a time by specifying the quantity of device, but when device numbers are discontinuous, you need to add them separately, with the configuration requirements for table 1 as an example, to add at least 32 times.
Specifies the control unit for each device, which can be specified while adding device.
The configuration process for HCM is shown below.
The advantages of HCM in completing this work are highlighted in the following three points:
1. Can quickly create multiple similar control unit with one key:
Specifies a starting value of 9000, an overlay value of 0080, and a number of additions specified as 16, as shown in Figure 4
