For network devices, clearing configuration information is the best way to prevent hackers from easily accessing the company's network. Today, I will teach you how to clean up internal data in routers and switches.
There are two different methods to choose when cleaning up Cisco routers, which are usually used in different ways:
1. Follow these steps to know the vro password:
(1) log on to the vro and enter the enbale command to start superuser mode. In this mode, enter the enable password command.
(2) enter the configure terminal command to start the global configuration mode.
(3) enter the config-register 0x2142 command.
(4) enter the end command and the write erase command to delete the current STARTUP configuration of the vro.
(5) enter the reload command to restart the router. When the system asks whether to save the configuration, select no.
After the vro is restarted, all parameters will be restored to the default settings at the factory.
2. Set the configuration register parameter to 0x2142. Most network administrators use this method to restore the password. However, when the password is restored, all configuration information is cleared, the process is as follows:
(1) log on to the vro and enter the enbale command to start superuser mode. In this mode, enter the enable password command.
(2) enter the configure terminal command to start the global configuration mode.
(3) enter the config-register 0x2142 command (this operation will cause the router to ignore the startup configuration at the next restart time)
(4) enter the end command and enter the reload command in vro# # prompt mode to restart the vro.
(5) At this time, the system will ask whether to save the configuration information and enter no, and confirm it at the next restart.
(6) After the router is restarted, the system will ask whether to load the initial configuration dialog box and enter n
(7) enter the enbale command to set the configuration register parameter to 0x2142, use the configure terminal command to return to the global configuration mode, and enter the config-register 0x2142 command
(8) enter the end command, and enter the write memory command to overwrite the existing STARTUP configuration with the currently running blank configuration.
(9) enter the reload command to restart the router and complete the cleaning process.
