How to install the system using centos 5 manual partitioning

The relationship between centos, fedora, and RedHat is not described here. I can't afford RedHat, and its anti-piracy work is quite good, so I have never used RedHat. Fedora is a system that I used when I first started using Linux. I think it is very useful, but its version is updated too quickly, I believe many cainiao like me have hesitated to update the new version. Centos is said to be exactly the same as RedHat. Some people say that apart from the logo, the two are completely the same, but some people say that the two are not exactly the same. The differences in compilation lead to a slight difference between the two in the application; whether it is easy to use remains to be investigated.

During installation, I used manual partitioning. I will discuss the general process. Other specific steps are not mentioned here.

Let's first review the LVM creation process:
1. Divide a blank hard disk space
2. Create a PV in this blank space
3. Create VG on PV
4. Create an LV on VG as needed

1. After you select manual partitioning, the following interface will appear. At the top of the interface is the basic information of the hard disk. There are six buttons in the middle to partition the hard disk. below is the information of the hard disk partition.

We can see that this is a 20 GB unpartitioned hard disk.

2. Click the new button in the middle of the interface to create a/boot partition. In this way, the hard disk is divided into two parts:/boot partition and blank partition. Next we will create an LVM on the blank partition.

3. Select a blank partition and click the edit button. In the file system type window, select physical volume (LVM ). This step is to create a PV.

4. Create VG now. Select the created PV and click the LVM button. The make LVM volume group window is displayed. Select volgroup00 as the default name and change PE to 4 m. The default PE is 32 m.

5. After creating VG, we need to create LV on it as needed. I have divided home, VAR, swap, And/into four LVM partitions. The following describes how to create a swap partition.

Open the VG window, click Add in the lower right corner, select "Swap" for file system type, change "name" to "lv_swap", and set the size to 1000 MB.

6. Create home, VAR, And/Partitions based on the method used to create swap partitions. The following figure shows the complete hard disk partition information.

By now, you can manually create a partition.

Let's look back at the situation where we choose to create partitions automatically by the system. If the system automatically creates a partition, it creates three partitions: A separate/boot partition and two logical volumes named logvol00 and logvol01. logvol00 is a/partition, and logvol01 is a swap partition.

Let's take a look at the situation when we use the grup command line to start the system. To start the system using the grub command line, you must specify the/boot partition, kernel image and root partition, and initrd. IMG. When the system automatically partitions and specifies the root partition, we enter roroot =/dev/volgroup00/logvol00.

In this manual partition, I changed the name of the SWAp partition, but did not change the name of the root partition, so the root partition is not changed. If the name of the root partition is changed, adjust the name of the root partition in the command line at the specified time.
