An error occurred while accessing the hard drive in Parallels Desktop, Parallels desktop displays the following error message:
Operation failed or an error occurred and accessing the hard Disk used by "Vm_name" .... Prl_err_disk_read_failed (820021029), errno=5 (input/output error)
Figure one: An error occurred while accessing the hard drive
Reason
1. The virtual machine is located on a disconnected network drive.
2.MAC HD Corruption issues
3.Boot Camp Virtual Machine Failure
Possible solutions
1. If your virtual machine is on a network drive: Make sure it is connected.
2. If there is a problem with the virtual machine on Mac HD, it is likely that it is damaged. Can be verified by the following methods:
Start the console (open Finder, go to Apps > Utilities > Console.app)
* for Mac OS X Lion and earlier versions: please find kernel log.
* for Mac OS X Mountain Lion: Please find System.log
Figure Two: Start the console
Look for "I/o" mode. You may see a log that contains this type of I/O error:
SEP 2 12:59:11 kernel[0]: disk0s2:i/o error.
SEP 2 12:59:25 kernel[0]: disk0s2:i/o error.
This means that the virtual camera is in a damaged area on Macintosh HD and the Mac OS x kernel cannot read its data from the drive.
It is recommended that you recover data from a virtual machine's hard disk by following these steps:
(1) Use Spotlight to find the virtual machine on Mac HD. PVM package > Right click on the found. PVM file and select "Show Package Contents";
(2) Inside you will see a. hdd file, right-click it--open with parallels Mounter. The hard drive of the virtual machine will be mounted to the file system and should appear in the Finder;
(3) If a new drive appears in the Finder, open it and copy the desired folder to Mac HD (do not copy all folders at once).
Note Some folders may not replicate in this step. This indicates that the folder or its contents are corrupted. If you encounter such a folder, open it to try to copy its contents one by one in the same way.
(4) If a new drive is not present in the Finder, indicating that a critical part of the virtual machine is corrupted, you will not be able to recover data from the virtual machine using the Parallels application.
Note: Regardless of the result of the troubleshooting, if the problem is not related to parallels desktop, there is no need to take any action from parallels.
