first, open the System Configuration Utility method:

Click Start-Run to enter the Msconfig or click OK to start the System Configuration Utility, as shown in the following figure:

Second, the main tabs and how to use:

1, "General" tab

Windows loads all drive and default system services at normal startup (by default), but sometimes because of device drivers being corrupted or installed incorrectly, or if the system service fails, it may cause a startup problem (not an inability to start). You can then use the other startup modes listed under this tab to test the problem. Click the General option, and under Start selection, there are three options:

(1) "Normal startup": The system chooses this option by default;

(2) "Diagnostic startup": Diagnostic startup means that only basic device drivers, such as video card drivers, are loaded when the system is started, and the service is only necessary for the system without loading modem, NIC and other devices. At this time the system is the cleanest, if the boot is not a problem, you can load the equipment and services to determine where the problem, this startup mode helps us to quickly find the cause of the failure to determine whether the hardware failure;

(3) "Selective Startup": Press the prompts to tick the items you need to start, or do not need to start the project, you can also start or prohibit some programs in a project. 5 items are: System.ini Win.ini load system service Load startup item boot.ini

2, SYSTEM. INI tab and Win.ini tab

System.ini contains information about the entire system and is a file that stores important configuration information that Windows requires when it starts. Win.ini controls the overview of Windows User window environment (such as window boundary width, loading system fonts, and so on). Msconfig can quickly view and edit these two INI files, such as click the main interface of the "System.ini" file, you can see the details of the file, if you want to prohibit the loading of an option, as long as the target is selected, click "Disable", and then click "Edit" when the target is selected You can edit the item (you can delete the item by clicking the Grid key), as shown in the following illustration: (WIN. INI tab operation is similar to this)

3, BOOT. INI tab

Boot.ini is the parameter commands that are provided when booting a multiple system startup, and these start parameters can be different starting effects. Boot.ini is loaded with the/fastdetect parameter by default, indicating that the serial port and parallel port are not checked at startup. In fact, we can change to other parameters, first in "Boot.ini" select the list of systems that need to be changed, then the parameters of the system/fastdetect to the corresponding parameter values. Starting the system later will load some settings information or screen. Switch to the Boot.ini tab, select the items you want to change, and then check the startup parameters that you want at the bottom of the startup options. Several common parameters are described here.

/safeboot: Secure boot, starting only the drivers and services in Hklmsystemcurrentcontrolsetcontrolsafeboot, followed by four parameters: minimal and network allow the system to start under Network connections; D Srepair requires the system to transfer the settings of the Active Directory from the backup device; Minimal (Alternateshell), which allows the system to transfer to the shell program specified by Hklmsystemcurrentcontrolsetsafebootalternateshell instead of using the default explorer.

/noguiboot: does not load the VGA driver, it does not display the startup process and the blue screen information when it fails.

/bootlog: Writes the log to the Nnbtlog.txt file.

/basevideo: Boot using standard VGA mode, which is used primarily to display driver failures.

/sos: Displays its name when the driver name is called and is better used when the driver fails to start.

4. Service tab

A service is a type of application that runs in the background, similar to a UNIX background application. Service applications can typically provide users with functionality, such as client/server applications, WEB servers, database servers, and other server-based applications, locally and over the network.

You can set up services in the Control Panel---administration---Services: start, stop, pause, resume, or disable services on remote and local computers. To start, stop, pause, restart, or disable a service, you must have the appropriate permissions.

In the System Configuration Utility, you can start or stop a service by selecting or canceling a service name to determine if a service failure occurs, as shown in the following figure:

5. Startup tab

A startup is a program that loads when the system starts, by selecting or canceling the program name to start or stop a program to determine whether a program is faulted or conflicting, as shown in the following illustration:

6. Extract the missing system files from the installation CD

Win XP sometimes causes system files to be lost due to installation/uninstall software or misoperation. Generally important system files can be extracted again in the system installation CD.

Switch to the General tab and click the Expand Files button in the then in the pop-up window, enter the file you want to restore (that is, fill in the missing file) name, restore from (click Browse from, select the installation disc path), save the file to (choose to save the file path), and then click Expand, The system will automatically decompress the phase. CAB file to copy the specified system files from the installation CD to your computer, as shown in the following figure:

7. Start System Restore

The Start System Restore button on the General tab allows you to perform a system restore operation directly, which is the same as the order hit start-Program-attachment-System Tools-System Restore, as shown in the following figure:

Reminder: System.ini,win.ini,boot.ini and Services tab, etc. do not recommend self-regulation, improper settings may affect the normal startup of your computer, please proceed with caution.
