A poem "invictus" created by William ennestor Henry in 1875 "
By William Ernest Henley (1849-1903)
(The motto inspired by Nelson Mandela for 39 years in jail)
Out of the night that covers me cover me late at night,
Black as the pit from pole to pole I saw the dark layers stacked.
I thank whatever gods may be grateful to God for giving me,
For my unconquerable soul cannot conquer the soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance, even if it is stuck by Hell,
I have not winced nor cried aloud. I will not crud or scream.
Under the bludgeonings of chance,
My head is bloody, but unbowed my head is full of blood, but I swear not to bow my head.
Beyond this place of wrath and tear outside of this anger and tears,
Looms but the horror of the shade terror shadow wandering,
And yet the menace of the years, but from years of threats,
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid, and should discover that I am fearless.
It matters not how strait the gate no matter how narrow the door of fate,
How charged with punishments the scroll does not matter what the penalty is.
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul I am the pilot of my soul.
-- I am the rudder of my soul, and no one can replace it .......
