I think three machines are interconnected

Editor: as more and more families start to have a second (or even a third) computer, Home Networking has become a hot topic. The "Three-host interconnection with dual NICs" and "Three-host interconnection method" introduce three-host interconnection methods. Some readers have encountered some problems in practice, and some readers have put forward their own views on the three-host interconnection mentioned in this article. Let's take a look:

I. Why are three machines interconnected?

In fact, if the purpose of networking is only to copy files or share some hardware resources, there is no need to connect three machines. I think most families that need to connect to the Internet are still in the "two machines" phase. As far as the author is concerned, there is an old 486, A New 800, there is also a public laptop-Sai Yang 300, although it is "three machines", but a network card to the network card with a port connected directly enough, if you need to copy files, you need to connect them with a network cable. Currently, in addition to chess and card games, it is difficult to find a game that can run on 486. It is impossible to create a three-host online game; it makes no sense to share the printer at the same time on three machines. After all, files must be typed one by one. One exception is that when I am checking information on the Internet, my girlfriend wants to chat, and my mom wants to stock up on the Internet, my solution is to install Win 800 (Server Edition) on p iii 2000, and then install Win 486 terminal service package on 2000, use the Terminal Server (Terminal Service) of Win 2000 for direct connection, and use the Internet connection and sharing of Win 2000 for the notebook. Everything is done.

Conclusion: When three machines are interconnected, the online cost of each workstation is higher than that of the two machines. Therefore, when the three machines need to access the network at the same time, for example, when the three machines are connected to the Internet at the same time, only when three machines are connected, temporary resource sharing and data transmission can be directly connected.

2. Is it valuable to use dual NICs to achieve three-host interconnection?

The answer is yes, of course. Many small enterprises use dual-nic to replace expensive routers to achieve cross-network segment connection. I did an experiment and there was no problem connecting two machines with dual NICs in the second edition of WIN 98. However, I couldn't connect the two machines without third-party tools, this is definitely not a three-host connection.

Conclusion: in Windows NT or 2000, by configuring the routing protocol, three machines can be interconnected, but it is unrealistic for common users to correctly configure the routing.
