grep eth/etc/modules.conf has unknown device

The NIC is not found.
It's just not loading up.

You can't see it with lsmod. The system loads the NIC module.
Dmesg| grep eth0 look at the model and try to download the driver. I remember the drivers for this NIC are supported by many Linux versions

Then I type under/lib/mod/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/(DIR):
Insmod Pcnet32

Ifconfig-a has eth0.

The NIC module was loaded successfully.
