MES and ERP complement each other to promote enterprise informatization

1 Preface MES plays an intermediate role in the integrated automation system of the plant-guided by the long-term plan generated by MRPII and ERP systems, mes collects production-related real-time data according to the underlying control system, plan, monitor, configure resources, and optimize the production process of short-term production jobs. Which technologies and modules does mes rely on to achieve this goal? In particular, how can we collaborate with ERP and control systems? 2. As a computer-aided production management system, MES plays an important role in linking up and down the optimization of data stream, which is to achieve continuous information flow of enterprises. It contains many functional modules. Through practice, Mesa (mes International Federation) has summarized eleven major mes Energy modules, including detailed process scheduling, resource allocation and status management, production unit allocation, process management, human resource management, maintenance management, quality management, document control, Product tracking and product list management, and Performance Analysis and Data Collection modules. Through the effective collaboration between these modules, MES plays an intermediate layer in the integrated factory automation system. In the lower layer of MES, It is the underlying production control system, including DCs, PLC, NC/CNC and SCADA. In the upper layer of MES, It is the high-level management planning system, including ERP and MRPII. From the perspective of hierarchy, the control structure of a manufacturing enterprise can be divided into the factory layer (or company layer), workshop layer, unit layer and equipment layer. The unit layer is equivalent to the Work Section or team of a general enterprise. Generally, the ERP system is at the factory layer and workshop layer, and sometimes expands to the unit layer; the device control system is at the equipment layer, and sometimes expands to the unit layer; MES is always in the workshop layer and unit layer. Therefore, MES and ERP have partially repeated functions on the workshop layer (sometimes including the unit layer), while MES and equipment control systems sometimes overlap some functions on the unit layer. Guided by the long-term plan generated by MRPII and ERP systems, mes collects production-related real-time data based on the underlying control system, schedule, monitor, configure resources, and optimize production processes for short-term production jobs. Control and Information feedback processes and the relationship between MES and ERP and equipment control systems. The plan and control commands are more and more detailed and specific from top to bottom. The real-time data collected by the data collection system distributed at the production site is summarized from the bottom up, and the data is more and more comprehensive. In terms of specific information interaction content, mes submits the cycle check count, production capacity, material consumption, labor and production line operation performance, WIP) storage location and status, actual order execution, and other data related to production operations; production Command Control and various production line operation parameters are released to the underlying control system. 3. complementary advantages of MES and ERP (1) lack of ERP although ERP can solve the problem of production planning well, the control at the workshop level is often not perfect. For example, the planning function of the workshop control module in ERP is generally weak, mainly to execute the MRP plan. It converts the MRP plan into a workshop processing ticket and a scheduling ticket, and executes the plan according to the workshop processing ticket and scheduling ticket. At the same time, it gives feedback on the plan implementation and controls the input and output. The time span (or planning period) of the processing and scheduling orders in the ERP System Workshop is usually long, usually weekly. Equipment Resources in the workshop processing and scheduling orders are in the Work Center, but there are usually no strict provisions on the definition of the Work Center, determined Based on the system implementation requirements and control granularity. Generally, a work center is defined as a group of equipment resources in ERP. All information feedback and cost accounting are conducted in the Work Center. Generally, when collecting information about the main process, ERP basically relies on manual input, which is not only inefficient and error-prone, but also the input data is basically the data of the previous shift or the previous day, and the information lags behind. (2) Advantages of MES the planning and scheduling functions of MES are similar to those of the ERP workshop layer. However, the planning and scheduling functions of MES are strong and the plan is also detailed. MES generally develops operation plans based on the workshop layer and unit layer, and assigns tasks to each equipment or operator in the workshop. The workshop processing orders in MES are similar to those in ERP. The scheduling orders in MES further decompose the workshop processing orders within the time and space, the daily (or shift) production tasks of each device in each unit during the planning period are usually refined. At the same time, the next day or next shift of production tasks are assigned to each operator (or equipment) in the form of a work order. The data fed back by the MES system includes not only the data of each device, each process, and each operator, but also the status data during the processing. In addition, because of the use of automated data collection technology, enables real-time collection of status data. The collected data is summarized layer by layer to obtain the production site data of the entire factory. 4. Integrating mes with ERP not only gives full play to their respective advantages, but also makes the production plan of MES system more reasonable and the data of ERP system more timely and effective, work efficiency is higher. The integration data between MES and ERP is related to the interface division between MES and ERP. In general, MES can take on all the functions of the workshop layer and unit layer, ERP can also take on the functions of the workshop layer, and MES can take on the functions of the unit layer. However, from the perspective of system integration, it is easier for MES to implement the functions of all workshop and unit layers.
