1. Define a new server

Defining a new server allows you to select the server connection you want to use, provide configuration information, and then select the project to deploy to the server.

(1) On the Server View toolbar, click New_server_icon. or right-click the server view and select New>server.

Note : If the server you want to configure is not in the list, you can install any WTP Server connector by clicking the Download adapter link for the other server. See Installing a Third-party Server Extension.

(3) Use localhost as the host name, or you can fully qualify the host's DNS name or IP address.

(4) Use the default server name or enter a new name. The server name identifies the server in the server view.

(5) Create a new run environment option for the first connector by default, and then click Next. For subsequent server connection settings see Working with Custom server Connector configurations.

(6) Enter information about the operating environment, including the installation path of the server.

(7) in the configured JRE drop-down list, the default JRE's workspace is the default JRE. Select Install a JRE to use to start the application server. Please participate in defining a New JRE installation to add an installed JRE.

Note : For third-party service connectors, such as Apache Tomcat or IBM Liberty profile, you can select and download servers and connectors, which requires a valid Internet connection.

(8) Click Next, the installation of the server is based on the selected default value.

(9) Click Next to select the project configuration on the server.

(10) Click Finish and the server's configuration will be displayed in the server view.

The connector used by the JRE installation is used to start the application server instance. If you have previously configured a JDK installation, you can select from the JRE drop-down list in the configuration list of the new run environment, or configure a newer JRE installation. The default JRE name lists only the JRE that is used to start myeclipse, however, these are not sufficient to meet the requirements of supporting most application servers.

(1) Click on the JRE that is already installed on the Run Environment Configuration page.

(2) Click Add. Note: Although the domain of the window refers to a JRE environment, the purpose is to specify a full JDK location as the operating environment, not the default JRE provided by Sun Microsystems Corporation.

(3) Select the type of JRE you want to add to the workspace, and then click Next.

(4) in the home domain of the JRE, browse to and select the root folder of your JDK installation folder, not the JRE folder.

(5) Enter a name in the JRE Name field and click Finish.

(6) Select the newly configured JDK from the configured JRE drop-down list and continue with the server configuration.

Note : Your application server may require additional configuration steps. See Working with custom Server Connector configurations to customize the connector's startup configuration as needed. Check all settings as they affect the proper startup and operation of your application server.

2. Installing third-party server Extensions

MyEclipse provides ready-made service connectors for many popular application servers. However, if the server you want to configure is not in the connector list, you can install any WTP server extensions. The following example shows the installation of the WebSphere Liberty profile extension in MyEclipse without WebSphere support. The version of MyEclipse that supports WebSphere includes a default WebSphere free configuration connector.

Note : Installing a third-party server extension requires a valid Internet connection.

(1) Click on the New_server_icon toolbar on the server view. or right-click the server view and select New>server.

(2) Click to download the other server adapter link, which requires a valid Internet connection.

(3) Select the WebSphere application Server v8.5 Liberty profile tool and click Next.

(4) Accept the license agreement and click Finish. The server supports the download and installation and prompts you to restart when you are finished.

From this point, you can continue to use the steps to install a third-party service connector to define a new server.

3. Deploy JEE Project to application server

At the initial server configuration, you can specify that an existing JEE project runs on the server. After the server configuration is complete, you can deploy the project to the server manually or automatically.

3.1 Manual Deployment

There are several ways to manually deploy a project:

    • Drag an item onto the server in the server view.
    • Right-click a project and select Myeclipse>add, and then remove the project deployment from the menu.
    • Click the Manage Deployment icon on the main toolbar.
    • Right-click the server in the server view and select Add/Remove Deployment.
    • On the Server View toolbar, click the Add/Remove deployment icon.

The following steps demonstrate using the right-click context menu in the server view.

(1) Right-click the server you want to deploy and select Add/Remove Deployment.

(2) Select the project to deploy to the server. When you support a service connector, you must select either of the exploded or packaged deployment options in the drop-down list next to the Configuration bar module.

If you do not want to manually manage project deployment or the running state of the server, you can use automatic deployment to have myeclipse handle it for you.

(1) To enable automatic deployment, right-click your project and select Run As> or Debug as>myeclipse Server application.

(2) Select the application Server for the project (or the new service connector you configured) that you want to run, and then click OK. The MyEclipse auto-deployment application selects the application server and then starts or re-publishes the server to serve you. Applies only to servers that appear in the list.

Note : In the parameters of the project (Myeclipse>server Deployment), when you use the Run as menu, you can select an application server to deploy the project all the time.

In the server view, you can expand the application server that runs your project to view the deployment registration. In the Application Server console view, you may see a log message that reflects the state of the application server and sends a new deployment to it.

If you are packaging deployment mode, you can use the mouse in the server view to discover where the deployment is in your application.

View deployment Information3.3 Removing a deployment

You can remove a deployment by using the Delete icon on the toolbar or by right-clicking the Add and Remove option in the context menu in Server view.

To use the Server View toolbar to remove a deployment (Undeploy), select the deployment that you want to remove, and then click OK.

Using the menu, right-click the project and select Add/Remove Deployment. Select the item you want to delete, click Delete, and then click Finish.

The project is closed and uninstalled from your server instance. As a final step, MyEclipse removes the deployment from the server, and the console view of the server records these activities and issues.
