Novice hard Drive installs Ubuntu once successful

Objective:

In fact, can not be considered a successful installation, but 4 times. But the first three times are caused by a low-level error (the = written in Chinese equals number =), so it is a success. After the installation of Intel Centrino WiFi, sound card, NTFS partitions are directly identified, too cool!!

Compared to Fedora, I used a little fedora before, supposedly that is the actual Linux official standard, but the ease of use is really bad, for an Intel Centrino, I studied for 2 days and did not install successfully, but Ubuntu in the installation process is directly identified The sound card is also, Fedora does not recognize not to say, spent a long time to install ALSA also not successful, gas fainted me, this is I play Linux or Linux play me ah? It is good to learn more, but time is limited, do not need to waste too much time for these low-level problems? In addition, Fedora can not directly identify the FAT32 partition under Windows, you need to write a few configuration code, although successful, but too cumbersome to remember, but Ubuntu directly identify FAT32 and ntfs!

Fedora because can not wireless Internet access (I can only wireless internet access), there is no sound, and can not directly read the data with Windows; These three reasons are really troublesome, directly caused me to discard Linux (so now the level is not high, hehe)! Before is the heart to kill, powerless, now different, with Ubtuntu can do a big, hehe ... Everybody progresses together, later has the question also please more advice!

Detailed installation steps:

(I am here mainly referred to my previous hard disk installation Fedora experience, as well as the forum Adsehzq Friends of the article: http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/about18980.html, thank you here!) )

1, download Ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.iso

Education Network http://ftp.sjtu.edu.cn/ubuntu-cd/

Official http://releases.ubuntu.com/

It is then placed in the root directory of a FAT32 partition, and Ubuntu automatically searches for it when it is installed, which is what I think is a very strange place in Ubuntu-it doesn't need to specify a path! Fedora is not the slightest bit of the path of difference.

(Note: Download Ubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso is useless, hard disk installation can not find, do not know why; although there are heroes in the jar remedy, but personally think that there is no need to roamed)

2. Download initrd.gz and Vmlinuz

Education Network http://ftp.sjtu.edu.cn/ubuntu/dists/dapper/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/

Official http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/

Save the three files in the root directory of the FAT32 partition (preferably in the root directory of the same partition as Ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.iso) or the ext3 or reiserfs partition root, preferably not in an NTFS partition.

I'm saving it in Windows D-packing directory, Linux is represented as/DEV/HDA5, and is represented in grub as (hd0,4).

3. Download Grub020p.zip, see annex

(This is a place that differs from the Adsehzq friend's article, personally thinking that Wingrub does not have a DOS version of Grub, and I've written the grub Menu.lst of the three different VGA configurations installed on Ubuntu, and you can copy and paste it in C:\boot\ At the end of the Grub\menu.lst, just press ENTER to select the line when you install it.

Unzip to C:\, edit the Boot.ini file, and add or replace the following code:

[boot loader]

Timeout=30

Default=multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \ Windows

[Operating Systems]

multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \windows= "Microsoft WINDOWS XP Professional"/noexecute=optin/fastdetect

C:\grldr= "GRUB for Dos/windows"

Edit C:\boot\grub\menu.lst Add:

Title Install-ubuntu 791

Kernel (hd0,4)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram ramdisk_size=32000 Devfs=mount,dall vga=791

INITRD (hd0,4)/initrd.gz

Boot

Title Install-ubuntu 792

Kernel (hd0,4)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram ramdisk_size=32000 Devfs=mount,dall vga=792

INITRD (hd0,4)/initrd.gz

Boot

Title Install-ubuntu 771

Kernel (hd0,4)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram ramdisk_size=32000 Devfs=mount,dall vga=771

INITRD (hd0,4)/initrd.gz

Boot

There are three ways to do this, so you don't have to write any more, so you can save trouble by writing mistakes.

Note: You may need to modify (hd0,4) in other ways, see where you put initrd.gz and vmlinuz, such as:

C disk is (hd0,0);

Then each logical disk, either Linux or Windows, takes up a position, such as:

D disk is (hd0,4);

E disk is (hd0,5);

F disk is (hd0,6);

....

For example, there is actually a Linux partition before D, but Windows can not see, then the D-disk under Windows should actually push back a grid, that is (hd0,5)
