Original: Install VMware esxi 3.5 on a common PC

 

 

First, you must note that (after testing) The general PC can install esxi 3.5. But not any PC. What are the conditions? You can refer to the following considerations. The installation process is simple. You just need to step by step.

 

Test Machine Configuration:

Asus p5pl2 motherboard, Pentium D 820 CPU, 1 GB memory, Sata hard drive, general ide optical drive, 3c905b Nic

 

Note:

 

1. The machine memory must be at least 1 GB; otherwise, an error is returned.

 

2. Set SATA to enhanced mode in bios, enhanced mode support on --> S-Ata.

 

3. the built-in Nic of the p5pl2 board cannot be identified, so I installed a 3c905b Nic of 3com.
 

4. log on to the esxi server through the VMWare Infrastructure client, create a datastore on the SATA hard disk, and then create a virtual machine.

 

5. When installing the Virtual Machine System, the client's optical drive is not faster than the optical drive on the esxi server. This depends on your work environment.
 

6. I tried 945pl-s3p motherboard, but it was not installed successfully.

 

7. Hard drive speed is very slow. I don't know why. During the test on p4c800 at home, the hard disk speed of the Virtual Machine in esxi can reach 25 Mb/s. The efficiency of esxi varies depending on different configurations. I have tried three types of configuration, one is no more than 10 Mb/s, and the other is no more than 3 Mb/s. I am sad. I will be familiar with it later to see if it can be optimized.
 

8. Check the compatibility document of VMware esxi on the official VMware website to see if the configuration you are using meets the requirements for installation.

9. It seems that some people have installed esxi on the IDE hard disk. I have never tried it.
 

10. If esxi is installed on a common PC, the memory size must be large enough. The storage system and nic should be considered in esxi compatibility.
