Password Recovery for Cisco Routers

 

1. Restart the vro and press Ctrl + Break within 60 s to enable the vro to enter ROM Monitor mode.

2. Enter a command at the prompt to modify the value of the configuration register, and then restart the vro.

Rommon1> confreg 0x2124

Rommon2> reset

3. After the vro is restarted, enter the Setup mode and select "no" to return to the EXEC mode. The original configuration of the vro is still saved in startup-config, you should save the configuration in startup-config to running-config, and then reset the enable password, change the value of the configuration register to 0x2102 (otherwise, the router will enter the Setup mode every time it is restarted ).

Router> enable

Router # copy startup-config running-config

Router # config terminal

Router (config) # enable password

Machine (config) # config-register 0x2102

4. Save the current configuration to startup-config and restart the vro.

Router # copy running-config startup-config

Router # reload (reload)
