The channel is an important part of Photoshop, and its function is very strong. Basically, the channel is used to control the light flux, the channel itself is no color, only black and white gray, dark area will be the light formation occlusion, so as to reduce the amount of light, light for the shielding effect of light weakened, the corresponding area of the amount of light will increase, black for the light, white light will reach the largest.

First look at the effect chart:

A three-source color combination chart with a gray background, as shown in Figure 1.

Three primary colors in different color channels in the light and shade, red channel red area is white, where red lights are obvious, and green and blue area is not required red, the corresponding area is black, the maximum limit of red glow from this place. The other three channels also have the same performance in the corresponding area, while the central part of the three kinds of the largest light through the intersection of the color display white, the surrounding background of three channels in the same light in the same range of colors shows no color gray, as shown in Figure 2.

Channel in the use of color palette is very wide, the channel itself can control the proportion of shade, thus affecting the color of the screen, this is the intuitive use of the way, on the other hand, you can get the selection through the channel, when the CTRL key on the keyboard, click the mouse channel thumbnail, then, The program automatically defaults to the white and light-colored areas within the selection, and the black and dark areas are outside the selection.

Through the control of the channel, can often get accurate to pixel-level refinement of the selection, for subsequent color rendering provides an optimal area control, so that more accurate color matching.

The original channel structure of the screen is relatively fixed, and can not meet all the requirements, therefore, through the processing of the channel to make the constituency more consistent with the needs of the design, this process needs to be used to channel mixed mode control, the tool used here is mainly the application channel and calculation.

With a good shooting basis, the characters are lively and natural, exposure moderate, but still have a larger picture of the processing space children as an example. The effect of the film is obvious, the light is relatively large, the character shadow surface is apt to show dirty ash, in addition, the picture background light intensity is higher than the figure main body, the background in the entire picture some seizes the view, is not advantageous to the prominent main body, moreover the picture overall color gray scale, lacks the whole atmosphere, the picture is easy to show insipid, now, To promote the overall picture, as shown in Figure 3.

Children take into account the overall style of demand, the characters should not be too large, so the first appropriate to highlight the dark part of the picture, reduce the overall light ratio, let the dark part of light up, so that the facial contour of the characters soft up.

In the channel panel, find the channel with the strongest contrast between the facial and dark regions (the blue channel), using the calculation commands in the Image menu, set the channel in the two sources to the channel that you just selected, reverse the check on the back of the channel, change the blending mode to multiply, and set the result to a new channel, as shown in Figure 4.

A new channel is generated, where the original dark area of the screen is white or light-colored, and the channel selection is properly illuminated using the curve, as shown in Figure 5.

At this point, the picture will appear some bright gray, you can increase the contrast of the picture, but the direct adjustment is easy to lead to black and white field of excessive, appear in the high light area or black site dead black no level.

Here, you can use the calculation tool to set the channel of two sources to Gray, the layer is set to merge layers, the blending mode is set to exclude, the result is set to a new channel, the new channel selection is selected as the middle gray area of the screen, and the brightest and darkest areas in the screen are screened out. In contrast to the content in this constituency, you can use the Curve tool here, as shown in Figure 6.

Reduce the screen light and shade contrast, the overall gray screen will be more obvious, and the screen background is too bright, the characters in such a background environment is not outstanding, not conducive to the performance of the subject. Stamp the layer and select the background section individually, here is the recommended Quick selection tool, add a mask to the layer after the selection is formed, and then change the layer blending mode to multiply.

Background as a whole dark, the front of the main body can be more prominent, in this process, if you feel the color of the screen, you can properly multiply the bottom of the saturation lower, as shown in Figure 7.

Background now the overall degree of brightness down to a certain extent, but the background of the light than the larger, the bright part of the area is still too bright, so it is necessary for the background of the light part of the region to carry out a separate treatment. Using the calculation commands in the Image menu, set the layers in the two sources to merge layers. The channel is set to the red channel, and the blending mode is set to overlay, when the new channel is generated, the difference between the bright part and the dark part is obvious, so the selection of the bright part can be obtained, as shown in Figure 8.

As it is for the bright part of the background part, so, after you get the new channel's selection, you need to cross the original background selection (channel or Mask selection: Click the CTRL key on the keyboard to put it on, mouse over the layer mask or channel thumbnail, get the first selection, and then point to the ctrl+shift+ on the keyboard. Alt key, and then click another mask or channel thumbnail you want to cross with the mouse. Optional colors in the neutral color options can be a good solution to this problem, but the overall tone of the diagram is more gray, neutral color options on the overall impact of the screen, so you need to use the selection will need to deal with the parts to distinguish.

Use the Quick Selection tool to select the skin portion of the persona and to cross the selection with the selection used in the previous Figure 5. Formation of the dark part of the skin part of the selection, for the selection of color adjustment, the focus of the adjustment is neutral color and red, yellow, if the dark dirty gray obvious, black can also be appropriate to adjust the actual situation, As shown in Figure 10.

Enhance the dark color, the overall color of the screen is thicker, according to the film itself, more suitable for the low color, so you can appropriately reduce the color saturation of the picture. To reduce the color saturation of the screen you can use the hue/Saturation tool, but this tool is easy to use to make the film boring, here is a tip to get the middle gray selection in Figure 6, use the hue/Saturation tool in the case of a selection, and reduce the saturation of the screen properly. This way can avoid the bright part of the picture and the dark part of the color loss, so as to reduce the saturation of the screen while maintaining a rich color layer, to avoid the ash, as shown in Figure 11.

After adjusting the level of the screen, next, you need to increase the visibility of the picture, select three of the original color channel in the most abundant layer of the screen (most of the green channel), the channel copy, for the channel copy using filter/other/High contrast retention, radius value set to 10, to find the outline of the picture, As shown in Figure 12.

Using the calculation tools in the Adjust menu, the two-source layer is set to merge layers, the channel is set to a new channel, the blending mode is set to overlay, the action is repeated two times, and each channel is set to the most recently generated channel to further enhance the contour, as shown in Figure 13.

To get the newly generated channel of the selection, for the selection of the part of the use curve to highlight, the picture of the bright outline will be significantly improved, the screen permeability will be significantly enhanced, as shown in Figure 14.

In order to strengthen the picture contrast, but also can enhance the sharpness of the picture, again to get new channel constituency, inverse selection, get dark contour selection, use curve to darken, but this process may make the character skin dark dirty, therefore, it is recommended that this operation using the dark contour selection and the selection of the cross-skin selection, as shown in Figure 15.

Now, the color is basically finished, but the screen atmosphere is insufficient, where you can use the Channel Mixer tool for the screen to add the overall color atmosphere, where the use of the blue channel, for the picture added warm yellow, as shown in Figure 16.

Using the calculation tools in the Image menu, the layers in the two sources are set to the merged layer, the channel to the red channel, the blending mode can be set to overlay or multiply, and if the original piece is larger than the light ratio, the light ratio is small or flat using a multiply stack, The selection of the new channel in this way minimizes the skin of the person and avoids the dark and contour areas of the screen, as shown in Figure 17.
