Are you still not used to IE7 or the way you work? You can use a few simple settings to improve your work efficiency, and it will be more handy.

Important: If you are unfamiliar with registry editing-for example, if you are unsure how to create a new DWORD value-please learn some of the Windows registry modifications before you modify it. Also, before you try any registry edits, make a backup copy of the registry.

1. Add your own search engine to IE

The search bar in the upper-right corner of the IE7 browser has many built-in search providers for you to choose from. Clicking on the dropdown arrow on the right of the search bar makes it easy to add more search engines, select Find more providers, and then add them to the page that appears.

But you can use the search engines that Microsoft offers. You can build your own search engine and use the IE Search bar to search any site, no matter where you are in the Internet.

Note that this site is not necessarily the search engine itself; Any Web site with search capabilities is OK. For example, if you often look up content for sports, shopping, or travel sites, you can create a search engine for these sites and add them to the IE7 search box.

First, click the Drop-down arrow to the right of the search bar and select Find more providers. In the page that appears, you can see "Create your own."

On another tab, open the search engine you want to create in IE. For example, open software.it168.com.

In the search box in the site, enter "TEST" to make sure that all uppercase letters are used. After the search is complete, copy the resulting URL from the address bar and paste it into the label page where you created your own.

In our example, this URL is: Http://publish.it168.com/showart...22&keyword=TEST

Then, in "Create your Own," Enter the name of a search engine. In our case, it is named "IT168".

Click on the "Install" button to install the new search engine into ie. You will see a hint to make sure you want to install it. Click "Add Provider".

Now, you can use the new search engine you added. Click on the arrow to the right of the search bar and you will see the list of options you have added, as shown in Figure 2. Now you can use it just like any other search engine.

2, accelerate IE's page load speed

By default, IE only allows two sessions to be downloaded from a single network server at the same time. This can affect the speed of your Web browsing, because you can't download all the objects that make up the page at the same time, so the page will be much slower to display. If you can force ie to download more objects at the same time, the page will display much faster.

A Windows Registry modification technique can do this. With such modifications, you can force IE to use more than two simultaneous sessions. The best number is 10. Here is the procedure:

1 Enter "regedit" on the command line or in the WindowsVista Start search box to open Registry Editor.

2) into the hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internetsettings.

3 Select "Edit" > "New" > "DWORD Value".

4 Create a new DWORD value, named MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server, and set its value to 10.

5 Select "Edit" > "New" > "DWORD Value" to create another DWORD value named MaxConnectionsPerServer, set its value to 10.

(Note that if you want to set a value that is more than 10, then the values in these two DWORD will also be set accordingly.) )

6 Exit Registry Editor and exit ie. When you restart IE, the new value will make your browsing speed faster.

3. Control multiple tab pages

Anyone who has tried tabbed browsing will realize that it's much better to look at different Web sites than it used to be in a separate window. But once you use it, it's easy to get lost in the sea of labels.

The IE7 contains a number of shortcuts that can help you quickly find the right label page. To see all the open tabs in a grid thumbnail, just click the "Quick Navigation tab" button on the left side of the tab. Or you can view it in the Drop-down menu of all open tabs, just click on the Drop-down Arrow tab list next to the "Quick navigation tab" button to view it.

Is it sometimes necessary to turn off tabs other than the one currently being viewed? It's simple, just right-click on the Open tab you want to keep and choose "Close other tabs" in the pop-up menu.

Finally, do you feel bored with the pop-up prompts asking if you really want to close all the tabs?

It's really easy to let this tip go away forever. The next time you see it pop up, click "Show Options" and choose not to eject the dialog box when you click the Close tab.

If you do not want to be prompted every time you close ie, and ask whether to close multiple tabs, follow these steps:

1 Click the "Tools" button and select "Iternet option".

2 in the dialog box that appears, click on the General tab, and then click "Settings" under "tabs".

3) in the window shown, remove the "Warn when closing multiple tabs" check out.

4 Click "OK" and click "OK" once again. This warning will never be seen again.

4, through the modification lets ie better print

IE7 provides you with a number of ways to control how pages are printed, including whether to print headers and footers, things in headers and footers, print page thumbnails, and so on.

It is easy to change the printing options. Click the Drop-down arrow next to the IE top print icon and select Print Preview. A window like the one shown in Figure 5 is opened to show the preview of the page print.

The icon on the page is the way to control how the page is printed. They are intuitive and can be understood directly, including portrait and landscape mode printing, shrinking font padding for better paper, and controlling whether headers and footers are displayed when printing.

For example, to turn the header and footer on or off, just click on the fifth icon on the left or press ALT-E. This preview will change with the header and footer displayed. When you have finished setting, click on the print icon on the page.

If you like, you can also modify what is actually displayed in the header and footer when you print. In the Print Preview screen, click the Gear-style page Setup icon. The Page Setup dialog box pops up

The Header and Footer input pane tells IE what you want to print in the header and footer. By default, displayed in the Header pane is: W&b page number, &p/&p (&w).

This is to tell ie the title of the Print window (&w), Print the word "page number" next to it, while the rest of the text on the right (&bpage), followed by a space and then print the page number (&P), followed by a space after the total page (&p).

The footer pane displays the following: &u&b&d.

This is to have IE print the URL (&u), and then print the short date format of the date (&b&d).

For example, if you are looking at the homepage of the New England rugby team (www.patriots.com

, the time is November 20, 2007, so the title of the window is "Officialwebsiteofthenewenglandpatriots" (the official website of the New England rugby team) and the page header prints this way:

The footer will print like this:

By changing the text and code in the header and footer panes in the Page Setup dialog box, you can change what is printed in the header and footer.

The code you can use to set up the printing method is shown in table 1.

5, let the menu bar back to where it should be

Many users complain that the menu bar in the IE7 disappears. If you want to turn it on temporarily, you can press the ALT key. If you want to keep it there, select Tools > Menu bar.

Even when you do it, you still feel strange. Unlike earlier versions of IE, the menu bar is below the address bar, but above it. You can solve this problem by modifying the registry.

1 Open Registry Editor.

2 Enter "Hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\internetexplorer\toolbar\webbrowser".

3 Select "Edit" > "New" > "DWORD Value".

4 Create a new DWORD value called "Itbar7position" and give it a value of 1.

5 Exit the registration form and close ie. And then turn it back on. The menu bar will now return to the address bar.
