Recently, Sadie Information Consulting Co., Ltd. on the current hospital information construction situation of the country's 50 large and medium-sized general hospitals, specialist hospitals and industry hospitals carried out a special investigation.

First, the domestic hospital informatization development present situation
The hospital information system of our country has experienced the following four stages roughly:

1. Single application: Started in the late 70, the early 80, mainly used for outpatient fees, hospitalization costs management, drug storehouse management.

2. Departmental LAN: In the 80 's, the representative application system mainly includes inpatient management system, outpatient pricing and charge-issuing system, drug management system, etc.

3. Complete hospital Information System: Beginning in the early 90, some large hospitals have set up a comparatively complete hospital information system on 100M Fast Ethernet.

4. Telemedicine: With the rise of the internet, in some large hospitals began the research and implementation of telemedicine, through the Internet transmission of radiation, MRI, CT and other images.

Generally speaking, since the 90 's, China's Hospital information construction has developed rapidly, in the country more than 500 (three a) large general hospital and more than 1000 counties and cities above two-level hospitals, nearly 900 large and medium-sized hospitals have implemented or are implementing hospital information systems. The sample survey of Sadie Information Consultant Co., Ltd. shows that the construction of hospital informatization in our country has the following characteristics:

The informatization degree of hospital in developed area is relatively high. Of the 50 hospitals surveyed, the developed area and provincial capital city hospital have high level in the aspects of information system design, development, application, Information system maintenance and system upgrade ability.

Relatively backward areas of economic information system construction is relatively simple, low technical level, limited to a single outpatient fees and pharmacy management, but there is great market development potential.

The investment scale of hospital information system in large general hospital is more than 10 million yuan, more than 62% of the technicians are undergraduates, and the number of doctors and nurses is up to 95%.

Ii. characteristics of hospital information system construction
Through the analysis of the results of 50 hospital sampling survey, we can conclude that the construction of hospital information system has the following characteristics:

1. Architecture:

Most hospital information system construction chooses Client/server architecture and 10m/100m main Exchange network. However, with the increasing function of hospital information system and the increasing demand, 3%-5% of the hospitals have already begun to reform the existing system.

2. Selection of network equipment:

The survey found that the hospital network construction, product selection is very cautious, the specific performance is:

The network has the good expansibility, the system is easy to upgrade;

The network has the openness, supports the heterogeneous network interconnection;

Advanced network Management system, with data flow analysis, system failure and operation status detection and virtual networking functions;

Ensure network security and confidentiality.

The results showed that more than 1/3 of hospitals opted for 3Com switches, followed by Intel switches, accounting for around 23%, while the rest was shared by Cisco, Nortel Networks and AMP products. Cisco products have been affected by the investment of the hospital in the early selection, however, in the recent hospital information system renovation projects and new projects have a good performance.

3. Server selection:

In the construction of hospital information system, the server as the core of the network, the total market size, user demand is obviously rising trend.

The typical configuration of small and medium-sized hospital information system is 2-3 PC servers, 1 for database management, 1 for Web server and 1 for backup server;

The typical configuration of large-scale hospital information system is 4-6 small or PC servers, the additional servers are application server, Knowledge Base Management Server and remote backup server.

In the server selection, the hospital CIOs generally believe that: stability, reliability, application is the key. Most of the departments in charge of hospital have their own equipment selection range.

In minicomputer, IBM, HP, Compaq, Sun occupy the main market share.

The overall server market for Compaq, HP, IBM, Sun occupies a major market share. Domestic brands of PC server share a small proportion of the main reasons for the previous few years of domestic PC server market environment, I believe that in the future medical reform and health insurance projects, domestic PC server will have a good performance, especially in the construction of small and medium-sized hospital information system will show a strong competitive strength. The results of the survey are shown in Figure 1.

The potential of PC server in hospital health industry is great, the growth rate is fast, and the competition will be more intense.

4. Application software:

The hospital information system is a complicated and extensive application system, so the development of the system is a tailored process. The survey found that many hospitals, more or less according to their own conditions to choose one or several development methods, as shown in the following table:

In the hospital surveyed, the system maintenance of large hospitals is good, while the system maintenance of small and medium-sized hospitals is often entrusted to the cooperation company, therefore, the whole hospital information system stability, reliability, security, standardization is the first consideration of hospital information construction factors.

1. In the hospital under investigation, CIOs are most emphasis on the stability of the system, the general system downtime should not exceed 5 minutes.

The biggest characteristic of hospital information system is that computer terminal is set up in different departments, more points, a wide range, many people operate, and the work of close contact between the information to call each other, the information should be updated at any time to save, in addition, the patient's medical information relates to personal privacy, the hospital has the responsibility for all patients to keep secret, Therefore, compared with other industries, the construction of hospital information system has higher reliability and security requirements.

3. In the 50 hospitals surveyed, CIOs are concerned about and are working to solve the problem of system standardization. If the system standardization problem is not solved well, the information communication between hospitals is not only an armchair, but also a dream of exchanging information between different departments within the hospital.

Iv. the gap with foreign countries
1. Investment scale gap is obvious:

Although the construction of hospital informatization in our country started early, but because of the influence of various factors, the development is not very fast, and the capital problem is the main restricting factor. The hospital in our country invests low in the information technology, this not only refers to the low proportion of investment in the total profit, the absolute value of a large gap with foreign countries, a typical U.S. city hospital in the information technology investment of about 2 million U.S. dollars a year, while the Chinese three-level hospital investment in the year no more than 200,000 U.S. dollars.

2. The gap between technical staff is obvious:

In the interview, we proposed that the hospital information system can be outsourced, many CIOs believe that the hospital information system Services outsourcing is very small, the main reason is that the hospital information system real-time is very strong, the problem must be resolved within a few minutes, so the CIO of the current shortage of hospital technicians are very worried. Sampling survey showed that 800 workstations in the hospital, computer technology personnel the largest number of a hospital is 16 people, 300 workstations of hospitals, computer technology personnel only 3-4 people, far from the day-to-day system maintenance and system training needs. In contrast, in foreign hospitals, there are 1 technicians at every 20 working sites for system maintenance. V. Market trends during the "XV" period
During the "XV" period, major hospitals in the country are or are preparing to devote funds to the construction of new systems or the transformation of old systems in order to adapt to the imminent implementation of health care reform.

The survey shows that the hospital information system "XV" period will be in the following areas to increase investment efforts:

1. A new-generation hospital information system centered on electronic medical records

2. Integrated Medical Nursing Network based on internet network

3. Medical card will become the focus of investment

4. Long-distance medical education will be developed rapidly

The hospital will further increase the investment in telemedicine, investment scale between 2.003 billion yuan range.

Medical industry is an important cause of human health, the hospital information system is the information source of the medical insurance system, therefore, the hospital information construction is not only the important direction of hospital development in the future, but also the field that it pays attention to. Forecast 2000-2001, China will have 70%-80% of the hospital to achieve information management, the total market will reach more than 20 billion yuan.
