Simulate illumination effect with Photoshop Mixed mode

This is a picture of a Jedi Knight in Star Wars (which can be saved as an exercise), and a luminous sword is drawn on the hand, but if you really have such a bright weapon in your hand, the face and clothing should be illuminated at the same time.

Now we're going to use Photoshop to simulate the effect of this light.

1, open the picture after a new normal layer

2, then choose the color of the glow, recommended to use HSB way to choose (h for Hue, s for saturation, b for brightness), HSB in line with human intuitive way of color. First adjust the H to the blue phase to glow, and then adjust the saturation slightly higher, the brightness will be lowered. The image is: if you want to send a blue light, first choose a dark blue, the other color and so on.

3, and then on the new layer using the appropriate size of the soft brush (shortcut key "[" and "]" adjust the brush diameter, shift+ "[" or "]" adjust the brush soft and hard degree); it does not have to be precise to draw a specific range where it needs to glow.

In the normal layer in the "color Dodge" mode, you can choose any color to add light-emitting effect (Note that B is not too high or easy to distort).

This method can simulate the effect of natural illumination objects, especially for the characters. But note that the original color should not be too bright, otherwise the effect may be greatly compromised.

If the color is selected and the Brush tool is selected, you can change the brush's drawing (blending mode) to "color Dodge" directly from the top of the Brush property bar, so you do not need to build the layer or directly on the original layer to draw the same effect exactly, but it is not conducive to later changes (such as changing the color of the light) It is therefore recommended that you take the approach described earlier.
