Six common troubleshooting methods for memory

As one of the important accessories in the computer, the memory is mainly responsible for temporary data access tasks. Because the memory quality is uneven, the probability of failure is relatively high. When the computer cannot start normally, enter the operating system, or run application software, and often crashes for no reason, most of them are caused by memory stick problems. I encountered various faults caused by memory problems when using my computer, and summarized the causes of memory exceptions and troubleshooting methods. I hope I can give you some reference.

Fault 1: poor contact between the memory stick and the motherboard slot and memory controller faults.

Fault performance: the computer cannot be started normally. After the power of the Computer Host is turned on, the chassis alarm horn appears for a long time, or after the host power is turned on, the computer can start but cannot enter the operating system normally, the Error message "Error: Unable to ControlA20 Line" is displayed on the screen, and then the system crashes.

Solution: most of the above faults are caused by poor contact of the slots with memory on the motherboard. The solution is to open the chassis and unplug the memory, use alcohol and clean paper towels to wipe the Gold finger and memory slot of the test memory, and check whether there are any signs of damage to the memory slot. After the test, re-insert the memory, generally, the problem can be solved. If the problem persists, unplug the memory and insert it into another memory slot for testing. If the problem persists, the memory is damaged, at this time, you can only replace the new memory.

Fault 2: self-check passed. A Memory allocation error occurs when an application runs in DOS due to a Memory address conflict. A message "Memory A11ocationError" is displayed on the screen.

Solution: the memory management files such as himem.sys1_emm386.exe are not used in the confis.sysfile to set Xms. the EMS Memory or improper settings enable the system to use only KB of basic Memory. The running program prompts "Out of Memory" (insufficient Memory) and cannot be operated. These phenomena are soft faults. Compile the system configuration file Config. sys and restart the system.

Fault 3: Windows runs slowly, and the system prompts many memory errors.

Fault Cause: this type of failure is generally caused by illegal access to memory by applications running in windows, too many applications residing in the memory, too many active windows opened, and unreasonable application-related configuration files. slow system speed, even worse, there may be crashes.

Solution: To solve this problem, you must clear the memory resident program, reduce the active window, and adjust the configuration file (INI). If a program runs slowly, you can reinstall the application to solve the problem. If the system slows down when running any application software or program, the best way is to reinstall the operating system.

Fault 4: Applications Running in DOS (such as game software running in DOS) in Windows may crash.

Fault Causes and troubleshooting methods: This fault is generally caused by conflicts between software allocation and memory usage, which generally results in black screen, screen, and crash, the best solution is to exit the windows operating system and run these programs in pure DOS state.

Fault 5: the memory is infected by a virus program and resident in the memory. The memory value in the CMOS parameter is modified by the virus, resulting in the memory value inconsistent with the actual memory size of the memory, during use, the system crashes.

Solution: first, use the latest anti-virus software to completely eliminate viruses in the system. Due to virus infection in CMOS, the default value can be restored after CMOS is discharged. The method is to first discharge the CMOS transient connection, restart the machine, enter the CMOS, carefully check the hardware parameters, and correctly set the parameter values related to the memory.

Fault 6: The computer is upgraded to expand the memory, and the memory is not compatible with the motherboard.

Solution: Check the main usage instructions of the main board before upgrading the memory of the computer. If the main board does not support a memory larger than MB, it will not work properly even after the upgrade. If the motherboard supports this function, but the compatibility of the motherboard is poor, you can upgrade the BIOS of the motherboard to see if it can solve the compatibility problem.

For purchased memory that exceeds the default frequency of the motherboard, for example, the motherboard supports DDR266 memory, but does not support DDR400 memory, you can achieve higher compatibility by reducing the memory frequency. In addition, many friends who use dual memory stick may not necessarily be caused by the compatibility of the motherboard, or computer faults caused by the incompatibility of the two memories. Therefore, you can use only one maximum memory. Or you can directly replace the memory stick of another model or brand.
