Steps for deploying and installing a vsts Single Server

Vsts has been launched for some time. With the release of the SP1 Patch, our company decided to migrate all the projects on the vss to the vsts environment, the MSF process promoted by Microsoft is used for more standardized software development and management. During the installation process, it is found that the installation of TFS is not a simple task, microsoft does not provide detailed information in this document. Now, we have written our own installation experience for your reference.

The installation of TFS is divided into single-server deployment and dual-server deployment. Our Department uses a single-server deployment. Therefore, the following describes the installation process using a single-server deployment.

Installation environment:

1. The team Foundation server cannot be installed on the domain controller, and other servers, such as exchange server or Host Integration Server, cannot be installed on the same computer.

2. Hardware requirements:

Single Server deployment, small team

Teams that support less than or equal to 20 users:

Components	Recommendation
Processor	2.2 GHz Pentium IV or athlon
Operating System	Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Enterprise Edition Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Standard Edition
Memory	1 GB
Hard Disk	8 GB of available space

Single Server deployment, medium-sized team

Departments with less than or equal to 50 users are supported:

Operating System	Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Enterprise Edition Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Standard Edition
Memory	2 GB
Hard Disk	30 GB of available space

 

3. Operating System: Windows 2003 Server SP1, either standard or Enterprise Edition. Configure it as a domain member server.

4. The machine name must not contain the underscore "_". Otherwise, the SQL Server 2005 report service is not displayed normally after installation. I was puzzled when I first encountered this problem. Later I checked msdn and found out that there is no solution to this problem.

5. Add two accounts in the domain: tfsservice and tfsreports. These two domain accounts can be added to the user group of the Local Machine and will be used when installing TFs.

5. Install Internet Information Service (IIS) and enable ASP. NET. frangpage 2002 server extension cannot be installed.
 
6. Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition or enterprise edition with the SP1 Patch. To install Visual Studio 2005 on the server, you must first install Visual Studio 2005 and then SQL Server 2005. Otherwise, when you load Visual Studio 2005, several "package loading failed" errors may occur.

7. Install Microsoft. NET Framework 2.0 patchProgram. The installer is placed in the kb913393 folder on the installation media.

8. Install Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 with the sp2 patch. You must use the "server farm" option to install Windows SharePoint Services. After the installation is complete, a Web browser window is opened and the "Configuration Management virtual server" page is displayed. After the page is displayed, close the browser window without any changes.

Installation Process:

1. During the installation process, the system first checks the environment and provides a report. If an error occurs, you can check the situation and correct it as prompted.

2. on the "service Logon account" Page, type tfsservice in the "account name" box and password in the "password" box.

3. On the "Report Logon account" Page, type tfsreports in the "account name" box and password in the "password" box.

4. In the "SMTP server" box, type the name of the server that will be used to send email notifications. In the "sender email address" box, type the name of the email address that serves as the notification source, and then click "Next ".

5. On the "installation Preparation" page, click "Install ".

6. On the "successfully completed installation" Page, after confirming that the installation is complete, click "finish ".

Subsequent steps:

1. After the team Foundation server is installed, use the "reporting services configuration tool" to back up the encryption key for reporting services.

2. Install "team resource manager" on the client, and then select "Tools"> "options"> "in Visual Studio 2005.Source codeManagement, and in Plug-in selection, select visula studio team Foundation server ".

3. In Visual Studio 2005, select "tool"> "connect to team Foundation server"> "server" and add the IP address of the TFS server. Port: 8080. Once added, you can use TFs for team development.
