Study on storage technology from the perspective of R & D Favorites

There is a lot of learning content for R & D personnel and storage technology. Based on my understanding, I divided them into the following eight items:
1. System Management: Unix/Linux/Windows operating system management, requiring familiarity or even proficiency.
2. Development Technology: C/C ++, network programming, multi-process/multi-thread, and inter-process communication. If you can master kernel development and driverProgramDevelopment is better.
3. Storage Basics: installation, configuration, and debugging of storage-related hardware and software such as disks, raid arrays, and file systems.
4. Storage System: Raid, Das, San, NAS, Cas, etc. Familiar with the principle and implementation technology of the storage system.
5. Storage protocols: TCP/IP, SCSI, iSCSI, NFS/CIFS, etc. Familiar with these storage protocols.
6. File Systems: VFS, extx/NTFS/FAT32 and other disk file systems, NFS/CIFS network file systems, lustre/GFS/AFS and other distributed file systems, master the principles and implementation technologies, it is better to read the source code.
7. Storage Technology: deduplication, SSD, HSM, virtualization, snapshot, replication, CDP, VTL, thin provision, etc. Keep track of the latest storage technology as much as possible.
8. Storage Architecture: grasp the storage requirements of different industries, propose storage solutions based on actual needs, and design, and implement the storage system architecture.

The growth of storage R & D personnel can be roughly divided into four levels:
1. Primary storage R & D: master the storage content 1, 2, and 3. You can perform storage R & D under the guidance of intermediate and middle storage R & D.
2. Intermediate Storage R & D: + master 4 and 5 items of storage content. You can lead the team in R & D and guide the preliminary development.
3. Advanced storage R & D: + master 6 and 7 storage items. You can study new storage technologies, optimize and improve existing storage systems, and develop prototype systems.
4. Storage R & D experts: + master 8 storage contents, research on cutting-edge storage technologies, storage system planning and architecture, and have a good understanding and insight into the development trend of storage.

The 10, OOO hour rule, simply put, anyone who wants to stand out in any field needs to invest more than 10000 hours seriously. 10000 hours is a critical point of breakthrough. It takes 10 hours a day, and 10000 hours is equivalent to three years. That is to say, to succeed, you need to invest 10 hours a day for three years. If you only have five hours a day, it will take six years. If it is 3 hours a day, it will take 10 years. Therefore, if you want to become an expert in the storage field, there is no shortcut. You only need to stick to learning, practice, and thinking. Three, five, eight, or ten years later, you will surely achieve something as long as you are still pursuing your stated goals.

"Thick and thin hair", with all storage peers!

1. Store books

The most direct method to learn the basic theory of storage is reading. Compared with computing and network technology, the development of storage technology is relatively backward. Therefore, there must be fewer books, fewer in China, and most of them are translated or adapted. I have read the following storage books in China:

Network Storage Technology Tsinghua University Press

Introduction to network storage technology Tsinghua University Press

SAN Storage Area Network Machinery Industry Press

Data storage backup and disaster recovery e-Industry Press

Object-based network storage Electronics Industry Press

Ipsan authoritative guide China Power Press

Path to achieving storage experts Tsinghua University Press

Information storage and management Press

Big talk storage Tsinghua University Press

Data reproduction Tsinghua University Press

2. storage resources

Network Resources are also an important resource for learning and storage, and can well track the recent development of storage. Frequently accessed URLs include:

Gartner: http://www.gartner.com/technology/home.jsp

Sansky: http://www.sansky.net/

Dostor: http://www.dostor.com/

Watchstor: The http://www.watchstor.com/

There are also some international storage conferences, such:

SDC, storage Developer Conference (2009, http://www.snia.org/events/storage-developer2009/presentations)

Fast, file and storage technologies (http://www.usenix.org/events/fast)

3. storage practices

In universities, we lack practice. Practice can help us better understand and grasp the theory, and gain the ability to implement and apply the theory. There are many practices, such as debugging the storage software and hardware, optimizing and improving the storage system set, developing some software, and reading the source code of the storage software. In practice, you can find opportunities to do more.Source codeIn addition to Linux kernel, www.sourceforge.net is the best place to go, read VFS, ext2/3/4, soft RAID, LVM, fdisk, NFS/CIFS, SCSI/iSCSI, fuse, AFS, lustre, and so on.

4. Storage Communication

Most cool people like to share with others. Don't worry about sharing your own things, and others will surpass you. It is actually an improvement for others to understand their own things. Things are clustered by class, and people are grouped by group. The Internet is not so convenient now. It is a good thing to find a group of people with similar interests and communicate with each other. At the same time, we can establish connections. Maybe we will work together or start a business one day. My MSN: liuag@hotmail.com (indicating storage communication) and Gmail: aigui.liu@gmail.com, welcome to share with me
