Graphic designers and web designers have to deal with a variety of customer types, such as inquiry, self-righteousness, and ignorance. Today, we classify them and teach them some coping skills. These skills come from my personal work experience.
Before learning about the customer's psychology, we need to know something. We should first understand what needs to be done before committing.
What needs to be done is:
Data
Data is vital to freelance web designers. Freelancers usually convert their own graphic design into website formats. If you are engaged in this line, you need to know the exact data volume, otherwise you will be in trouble. I remember a customer from NGO told me that they needed to put the pictures they organized into an animated album. I agreed (there was no difficulty ). I received a DVD containing more than 1,000 high-definition images. I was so stupid that I didn't know what their real needs were. You need to know:
- What is the amount of photos that data can process?
- What kind of website structure do they need?
- What is the total capacity of the website?
Thinking
It is the primary task to figure out the customer's thoughts and their likes and dislikes. Some prefer dark backgrounds, while others prefer the opposite. Use a computer to show customers a series of image samples and speculate on their preferences. Some people like gradient and nostalgia patterns, while others prefer monochrome image backgrounds. Some people want to add a lot of animations to the website, but others only want the download speed to be faster. The problem is that they cannot tell you all the information, so you need to understand it yourself. If you are dealing with a group of enterprise customers and you cannot determine what a person thinks, then you need to rely on your common sense to judge.
Requirement
Customers do not understand the technical aspects. You must confirm their needs. I designed an available rule for you. The rule is, "How often is a website updated ". If the website needs to be updated frequently, you need to use CMS, such as WordPress or Joomla. On the contrary, HTML-CSS is used. If you can make the right decision, the rest will naturally come to fruition.
Price
This is a big topic. One thing I learned is never to bargain. Once the bid is made, do not change any more, because if you reduce the price (even if it is a small drop), the customer will feel that you are more charged. Another trick is to ask for a higher price for customers who know little about web design. This is because they require services that are not within the scope of this design program. When they make a request, such as the script file on the message board, they should pay for it.
Inquire customer type
Next let's take a look at different customer types, starting with the most difficult customer types. This type of person is usually the most demanding. They try to prove that your design is "not good enough" or there is a problem here or there. You may feel a headache when you first meet this customer. Their typical feature is to deduct a lot from the charges.
At the beginning of your business, you had to deal with them. In fact, this may not be bad because they can help temper your temperament.
Dealing with it
The first task is to set all the details in the order, including the time required for proofreading (this should not take a lot of time ). As the design goes on, your salary should also be paid. Whenever they make unreasonable requests, you just reject them and explain that the contract does not include this.
Technician
The people who love to inquire are usually the owners, but in many cases, an IT professional will also ask you to design webpages. Such people may come to design websites on behalf of a company.
Dealing with it
The IT field quoted a saying: "If you cannot convince people, then confuse them ". Never try this method with people who are good at IT. They won't trust it easily. In front of them, you should treat people with sincerity and tell the truth. They understand your needs, so you have to confess to them.
Richie Rich
They are the customers you dream. They have money and are willing to spend money. Once such customers enter your office, you should deal with them like this:
Dealing with it
First, they need your VIP level agreement. If you provide an agreement, they will call it a specific customer support.
They will not evaluate your design level on their own. They seek expert advice from third parties. Therefore, remember that website design will be tested by professionals and must be fashionable.
