The characteristics of CICS Transaction Server V5.1

In the newly released CICS Transaction Server 5.1 release in December 2012, we addressed the needs of more than 100 global customers, including Chinese customers, and focused on two areas to address these issues: operational efficiency and agile services.

The CICS V5.1 enhances operational efficiency from four aspects,

First, CICS region capacity has been greatly increased. In the customer's production environment, many customers have used thousands of region, which makes the cost of operation is very high, CICS 5.1 in the horizontal and vertical two aspects of its expansion, horizontal, threadsafe further enhanced, so that our single CICS Region can use more CPUs, concurrent more tasks, vertical aspects, the expansion of 64-bit memory use, so that CICS can use more tasks, through these two aspects, the single CICS region capacity is further enhanced, In the case of supporting the same number of workload, we can reduce the number of CICS region, thus reducing the cost of the Operation dimension.

Second, automated management has been enhanced. In 5.1, the introduction of policy enables CICS to automate the monitoring of critical resources, these key resources include the amount of memory used in each transaction, the number of CPUs used, SQL access, or the number of file accesses, and so on, when the system discovers that these critical resources are abnormal, you can set the POL according to the user Icy, such as printing an error message in the job log or generating an event for subsequent processing, or simply stopping the task, can be customized by the user, reducing the system's operational costs.

Third, support for high availability. This is a feature that continues to be enhanced in multiple versions of CICS. In 5.1, we have introduced new tools to add the SVC number of the system without the system IPL, and if the user adds a new SSL certificate, the CICS will no longer need to be restarted; CICS introduces support for heartbeat data, reducing the likelihood of IP connections being disrupted by the network and firewalls.

Finally, insight into the system situation is enhanced. An extended enhancement to the CICS Monitor feature is a continuously enhanced feature for each CICS version. The agility of CICS V5.1 Services is reflected in four aspects:

First, application can provide agile services on existing resources. Application by integrating dispersed resources into one entity, the versioning of user applications and the unified management and rapid migration of resource lifecycle are achieved; application can track and measure resource usage and statistics for user applications as a whole Application can also be managed dynamically at run time by policy.

Second, platform created the Platform for Agile service operations. As the liberty is packaged with OSGi, the application updates become more convenient.

Finally, the CICS infrastructure enhancements include: The EP supports the new capture point---write operator and CICS message, while also supporting the sending of a One-to-many event. MQ DPL Bridge supports the CICS container and removes the restrictions on 32k storage. IPIC full support and IMS communication, IPIC Put/get container reduces the need for application memory. Sysplex can be recovered and backed up without having to set parameters manually.
The CICS clock can also be adjusted automatically.
