Wireless network technology is already closely related to our daily lives. Therefore, for network administrators, setting up a LAN requires consideration from various aspects. Here is a detailed description. The wireless LAN (WLAN) industry is currently one of the fastest growing industries in the entire data communication field. Due to its flexibility, mobility, and low investment costs, the wireless LAN solution can be used as a supplement and extension for traditional wired local area networks, it is favored by home network users, Small and Medium-Sized Office Users, Enterprise Users, and telecom operators and has been quickly applied. However, all kinds of problems have plagued individual and enterprise users throughout the wireless LAN. The first is how to build a wireless LAN, which is also one of the most basic problems in a wireless LAN. Specifically, the establishment of a wireless LAN includes the establishment of a home wireless LAN and the establishment of an enterprise wireless LAN. Let's take a look.

Build a home wireless LAN

Although many home users have chosen a wired method to build a LAN, they are also subject to various restrictions. For example, wiring affects the overall design of the room and is not elegant. The home wireless LAN can not only solve the line layout, but also achieve all functions of the wired network and wireless Internet sharing. With various advantages and advantages, more and more users begin to focus on wireless LAN, and more home users begin to build wireless LAN, but there are many problems for new users. Next we will build a home wireless LAN with two computers (desktops.

1. Select the Networking Mode

The networking method of the home wireless LAN is different from that of the wired LAN. The simplest and most convenient way is to select the peer network, it is centered on a Wireless AP or a wireless router (a HUB or a switch is used for a traditional wired LAN). Other computers communicate with each other through a wireless network adapter, Wireless AP, or a wireless router.

This networking mode has the features of easy installation, strong scalability, and easy troubleshooting. In addition, there is also a peer-to-peer network mode that implements data transmission directly through a wireless AP or a wireless router through a wireless network card. However, it is relatively difficult to set the distance and network between computers.

Home wireless LAN 2. hardware Installation

Below, we take TP-LINK TL-WR245 1.0 Wireless Broadband Router, TP-LINK TL-WN250 2.2 Wireless Network Interface (PCI interface) as an example. Turn off the computer, open the hosts box, insert the wireless network card into the idle PCI slot of the motherboard, and restart. After you re-enter the Windows XP system, the system prompts "new hardware found" and tries to automatically install the NIC driver. The "find new hardware wizard" dialog box is displayed for manual installation. Click the "auto install software" option to insert the drive disk that comes with the NIC into the optical drive, and click the "Next" button to install the driver. Click "finish. Open the "Device Manager" dialog box, and we can see that the "Network Adapter" already has a wireless network card installed. After the wireless network card is successfully installed, a connection icon will appear in the Windows XP system taskbar (the "wireless network connection" icon will be added in the "Network Connection" window ), right-click the icon and select the "view available wireless connections" command. The displayed dialog box displays the available wireless networks. Select this network, click "Connect" to connect to the wireless network.

Next, select a suitable location in the room to place the wireless router and connect to the power supply. To ensure wireless Internet access in the future, you need to place it close to the Internet network endpoint. In addition, we need to pay attention to the distance between the wireless router and the computer with a wireless network card installed, because the wireless signal may be affected by the distance, wall-mounted performance, and the long distance will affect the receiving signal and data transmission speed, it is best to ensure that it is within 30 meters.

Home wireless LAN 3. Set the Network Environment

After the hardware is installed, we also need to configure the Wireless AP, wireless router, and the corresponding wireless client separately.

(1) set up a wireless router

Before configuring a wireless router, read the user manual provided with the product carefully to learn about the default Management IP address and access password. For example, the default Management IP address of our wireless router is 192.168.1.1 and the access password is admin. after connecting to the wireless network, open IE, enter 192.168.1.1 in the address box, enter the logon user name and password (the default user name is blank), and click "OK" to go to the router settings page. Click "Basic settings" in the left-side window and set the IP address in the window on the right. The default value is 192.168.1.1. In the "Wireless Settings" option group, make sure to select "allow ", in the "SSID" option, you can set the name of the wireless LAN and select the default number in the "channel" option. In the "WEP" option, you can select whether to enable the key, disabled by default.

Tip: The SSID is the Identifier of the Service Set Identifier. It can also be abbreviated to ESSID, which indicates the Identifier character of the Wireless AP or wireless route. It is actually the name of the wireless LAN. This identifier is used to distinguish between different wireless networks. It can contain up to 32 characters, for example, wireless.

The Wireless Broadband Router we use supports the DHCP server function. Through the DHCP server, we can automatically assign IP addresses to all computers in the wireless LAN. In this way, you do not need to manually set IP addresses, avoid IP address conflicts. The specific setting method is as follows: Similarly, go to the vro settings page and click the "DHCP Settings" link in the left-side window, in the "Dynamic IP Address" option in the window on the right, select the "allow" option to enable the DHCP server for the LAN. By default, the "Starting IP Address" is 192.168.1.100, so that the IP address of the first computer connected to the wireless network is 192.168.1.100, And the IP address of the second computer is 192.168.1.101 ...... You can also manually change the last number of the starting IP address and set the number of users (50 by default ). Click "application.

Tip: by enabling the DHCP server function of the wireless router, the IP address of any computer in the wireless LAN needs to be set to automatically get the IP address, so that the DHCP server can automatically assign an IP address.

(2) wireless client settings

After configuring the wireless router, You need to configure the client with the wireless network card installed.

On the client computer, right-click the wireless connection icon in the system taskbar, select the "view available wireless connections" command, and click the "advanced" button in the displayed dialog box, in the displayed dialog box, click the "wireless network configuration" tab, click the "advanced" button, and select "access only (structure)" in the displayed dialog box) select "network" or "any available network (preferred access point)", and click "close.

Tip: in Windows 98/2000, you cannot configure a wireless network card. Therefore, after installing the wireless network card, you must install the client software that comes with the network card to configure the network.

In addition, to ensure the smooth sharing and mutual access of computers in the wireless LAN, the names of Working Groups of all computers in the LAN should be unified.

Right-click "my computer" and select the "properties" command to open the "System Properties" dialog box. Click the "computer name" tab, click the "change" button, enter a new computer name and a working group name in the displayed dialog box, and click "OK.

Note: In the network environment, you must ensure that the Workgroup name is the same, for example, Workgroup, and the names of each computer can be different.

After restarting the computer, open "Network neighbors" and click "view workgroup computers" in the "Network tasks" task pane to view the names of other computers in the wireless LAN. In the future, you can also set a shared folder on each computer to share files in the wireless LAN. You can also set up a shared printer and a fax machine to achieve shared printing and fax operations in the wireless LAN.
