The topic of how to distinguish between art and design is always convoluted, and thus the controversy that has been sparked for a long time.

Artists and designers create visual works based on the same knowledge base, but the reasons they create are very different.

Some designers think they are artists, but few artists think they are designers.

What is the exact difference between art and design? This paper will study and compare the core principles between the two.

There is a strong disagreement on this subject and I look forward to your comments. This article is not authoritative guide, just want to launch a topic, let us let open minded to discuss!

An excellent artistic inspiration; a good design motivates people.

Perhaps we all agree that the most essential difference between art and design is the purpose of both.

Usually, the process of creating artwork is from scratch--a whiteboard. Artwork is an artist's opinion or opinion or attitude.

They create works of art to share ideas with others, to connect viewers with them, and to learn from them or to be inspired by them.

The most famous (successful) art of the day is the art of creating a strong emotional bond between the artist and the audience.

In contrast, when designers are ready to create a new work, they almost always have a fixed starting point, whether it is words, pictures, inspiration or action.

The designer's job is not to create new things, but to deliver what is already there.

That goal is almost always to motivate viewers to do things like buy a product, use a service, visit a place, and get some information. The most successful design works are those that can most effectively convey information and motivate consumers to consume.

Excellent art needs to be interpreted and good design needs to be understood.

Another difference between art and design is how their respective audiences understand the message they convey.

Although the artist is prepared to pass on ideas or emotions, this is not to say that opinions or emotions have only one meaning.

Art is connected to people in different ways because everyone has different interpretations.

For years, people have been reading and discussing the Mona Lisa of Leonardo da Vinci. Why is she smiling? Scientists say this is a vision-causing illusion around you. The romantics said she was in love. Sceptics say there is no need for reason. They're right about everything.

And the design is diametrically opposed. Many people say that the purpose of a design is to "interpret" it is a failure of the work.

The basic purpose of the design is to convey information and inspire the audience to do something.

If the information that your design works on is not your intention, your audience will interpret it as another message, and the work does not meet its requirements. Through the excellent design work, the audience can understand the designer's accurate information.

Good art is a taste; good design is a point of view.

Art is judged by opinion, while opinion is governed by taste.

For a visionary modern art enthusiast, Cui Sil Aimin, who was shortlisted for the Turner Award in 1999, "My Bed," may be the height of artistic expression. Cui Sil Aimin is a British artist, "My Bed" This work is: a messy double bed, with stains on the bedding, strewn around with dirty underwear, TT, slippers, empty drink bottles and other miscellaneous items. )

For more traditional art followers, "My Bed" may be a disgrace to the media. This is back to the interpretation of what we say, but the taste is more people's Joy and evil, is not the work of the message passed.

Although the design has taste elements, but the distinction between good design and poor design is a matter of opinion.

Without taste, excellent design works are still successful. It's a matter of opinion if it can achieve the purpose of what people do, whether it is good or not.

We can continue to discuss this particular point of view, but I hope that the rationale is clear.

Good art is a gift; Good design is a kind of ability

What about the power of the creator?

Often the artist is born with the ability. Of course, artists from young age should cultivate the ability of sketch, painting and carving.

But the true value of an artist lies in its innate talent (or innate ability). A good artist is certainly capable, but the artistic ability without talent can be said to be worthless.

But design is a skill that can be taught and learned. You don't have to be a great designer to be a great artist, you just have to be able to achieve the goals you want to deliver.

Some of the most respected designers in the world are known for their minimalist style. They don't use too much color or texture, but they focus on size, location, and space. All these things can be learned from the day after tomorrow.

Good art conveys different messages to all; Good design conveys the same message to all.

While this really belongs to the discussion of "interpretation" and "Understanding" 2nd, it makes sense if you take this out alone.

Many designers think they are artists because they create some visual appeal, something they are proud of, hanging on the wall for people to appreciate the work.

But a visual work is designed to accomplish specific tasks or convey special information, no matter how colorful it is, it is not art. It's just a way of communicating, just a window that contains information.

Few artists claim to be designers because they seem to understand the difference better. The creation of a work by an artist is not a sale or extension of a service, but merely a form of self-expression, so that others can watch and appreciate the work. The message it conveys (if we have to call it "the message") is not a fact, but a point of view.

What do you think?

It depends on how you view the difference between art and design, and the difference can be clear and vague. There must be something in common between art and design, but art is more personal and is used to awaken a strong reaction from the audience.

I quote a few words from Craig Elimeliah as the end. Craig wrote an excellent article on the subject for AIGA (American Designers Association), just as I saw it when I was writing this article.

"I don't claim to be an expert to judge what art is and what is not, but I do know that if we study the difference between art and design, we can see the dividing line more clearly."

An engineer, if given its exact location, fill different colours in different places. According to the instructions, he can draw a beautiful website or advertising. Most design projects have a detailed description, most of which are based on current trends and impacts.

On the other hand, an artist can create a new and unique masterpiece without any detailed explanation. This is because his emotions and soul dictate the movements of his hands and the use of tools.

No art director would yell at an artist to do something totally unique, because it's about making an artist an artist, not a designer. ”
