The short link problem of the cabling system is a common problem for all of us. So I have studied the causes and solutions of this problem. I will share it with you here, I hope it will be useful to you. When testing on a cabling system, a series of test parameters are used to test the system. These parameters determine whether the tested system can meet the performance requirements of the corresponding category, that is, the Standard Specification defined by TIA, including ps acr, PSNEXT, PSFEXT, and attenuation. The return loss is one of the parameters. It refers to the ratio of the signal reflected on the transmitter to the original signal sent.

Importance of Ripple loss
Class 6 tests are used to test the usage of the system in a full-duplex transmission environment or Gigabit Ethernet applications. Ripple loss is an important parameter and may cause errors in such networks. Because the full-duplex network can send and receive information at the same time, although it does not receive any signal, large reflected signals may be seen as received signals, which produces an error code. Therefore, the return loss is a strict parameter in the Six-class test, and it is not easy to pass the test.

Wiring System short link problems
The main cause of Ripple loss is that the impedance between the cable and the contact pin of the End Socket does not match. This situation cannot be completely eliminated, because there is no 100% matching in the world. At the same time, the short cable length increases this loss effect because there is not enough long cable to attenuation this echo signal. For a relatively long cable, the probability of receiving the echo signal at the transmitter side is higher.

Recently, the application of Short Link in six types of cabling systems has become very common. For example, in IDC, it brings more difficulties to application engineers and wiring and installation personnel. According to TIA/EIA standards, the "short link" is defined as a horizontal cable link less than or equal to 15 meters between connectors. The short link problem of the cabling system is defined as that when the horizontal cable distance between the two connectors is shorter than the standard, the NEXT and return loss effects of the second connector are not completely reduced. TIA/EIA indicates that the distance is less than 15 meters.

Solution to short link problem of cabling system
This is an important guiding principle to be remembered, because other factors may have reduced the margin of anti-interference on the Link, such as factors such as terminal connection technology and cable management methods. In general, a longer cable length reduces these negative effects due to the great attenuation of the cable itself. However, a short cable length, that is, a short link, cannot reduce these effects. In addition, the allowable standard margin of the six types of links is generally lower than that of the five types of links. Therefore, the allowable margin for errors is less and the requirements are stricter.

In general, it is recommended that designers avoid applying short links to six types of cabling systems to maintain the maximum parameter clearance margin. One way to achieve this is to allow cabling with "loose margin" cables, that is, longer distance cables, to make each cabling cable longer than 15 meters.
