Compatibility between rman Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition
Source:
RMAN Standard and Enterprise Edition Compatibility (Document ID 730193.1)
Applicable:
Oracle Server-Enterprise Edition-Version 10.2.0.4 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Objectives:
When the target database is Enterprise Edition, can the recovery catalog and rman executable programs use the Standard Edition?
Solution:
There is no problem with rman catalog, whether on the enterprise or Standard Edition.
Rman catalog only saves the schema of objects of the backup metadata of the database.
The recovery catalog can be used in the Standard Edition.
If target database is Enterprise Edition, you can use features of all enterprise versions of rman, even if your catalog is Standard Edition
You can also use all features of the Enterprise Edition to back up the target database.
It does not matter whether the rman you use comes from the Enterprise Edition or the Standard Edition. Oracle cares about which editiion database rman connects to. In this case, it is the Enterprise Edition.
Additional information: (do not translate as follows)
RMAN running under Standard Edition does NOT allow for (When Target Database is Standard Edition): 1. Multiple channel allocations, i.e., parallelize the backups, no duplexed backup sets 2. Blockrecovery 3. Incremental backups (until 10g) 4. Features that don't apply to the standard edition will also not apply in RMAN. Such as Point-in-time tablespace recovery
