Change the Ubuntu 16.04 Unity location
As I've already made clear, the method is currently available only for Ubuntu 16.04 and will not work with earlier versions of Ubuntu.
Using terminal commands
You can execute the following command in the terminal:
Move the Unity position to the bottom
Gsettings Set Com.canonical.Unity.Launcher launcher-position Bottom
Move the Unity position to the left
Gsettings Set Com.canonical.Unity.Launcher launcher-position left
The above command needs to be restarted before the system takes effect.
Using the GUI tool
To operate using a graphical interface, you need to first install the dconf Editor System Configuration Editor:
sudo apt-get install Dconf-editor
Once installed, you can manually select Unity's location on the desktop in the Com–canonical–unity–launcher of the tool.
The configuration after the dconf Editor change takes effect immediately and is relatively convenient to use without rebooting the system.
