It's a very crash problem, and it's been a long time. There is no clear understanding of which details are causing the problem, but the reason is probably known, and a solution has been developed.
Problem description
Desktop, there is no discrete graphics card, that is, only one Intel CPU together with a small broken video card (I do not quite clear the set and the nuclear display, anyway, one of them is right).
Initial memory 8g,ssd+1t mechanical hard drive.
Install WIN10, can run, install ubuntu16.04, frequent crash (suddenly restarted). Where win10 for a period of time, as long as the opening of Vscode is easy to feign death (all kinds of GUI window card dead, only the mouse can use, ctrl+alt+delete Dafa also useless), later because of the installation WSL (Windows subsystem Linux) Updated Win10 to the latest then vscode the problem is gone.
Then there's not enough memory to use Android Studio, the Big Mac IDE. Then add 1 8g of memory. Win10 normal operation. Ubuntu will suddenly crash and then restart, the main performance is the mouse click on the top left corner of the desktop to search the dash home, casually input something, on the crash.
Solutions
Add a video card. It doesn't matter if you have bad performance. Since the AMD graphics card has not been used for a long time, the previous experience in laptop-mounted AMD graphics cards is the A-driver special kernel version, simply changed n card.
The method that I tried
Re-install the Ubuntu system. At first the suspicion was that the Ubuntu system was not installed properly. Re-installed and found that the problem remains.
Unity-tweak-tool, turn off background blur. Useless. (This method is from: https://askubuntu.com/questions/287354/clicking-the-dash-home-causes-computer-to-freeze-up)
Ccsm, compizconfig, some people say that there is a "low graphics quality" option in the General page, but I do not have this option on my ubuntu16.04; someone commented that adding a configuration file vim ~/.config/upstart/lowgfx.conf
But it doesn't work after rebooting. (This method is from: Https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/11/enable-low-graphics-mode-unity-7-ubuntu)
Sentiment/spit Groove
It was early days when Amway Linux (UBUNTU,FEDORA,ETC) was able to run smoothly because of the small footprint of the computer. But to this time, Ubuntu Desktop Edition still needs to consume some resources.
