Use WinRAR to automatically back up important data

Each person's computer has a lot of valuable information, such as your paper, letters in outlook, ie favorites, RSS links in feeddemon, etc. The importance of backup is often needless to say, but how can we make backups easy and simple, instead of heavy work? I found many backup tools on the Internet and found that they are either very expensive, there are also various defects (such as not using a common compression format). Later I found that this task can be completed only with WinRAR, and most people have this compression software on their computers.

Open the WinRAR help topic and you will find that many parameters can be specified in WinRAR command line mode. The format is:

WinRAR < Command > - < Switch1 > - < Switchn >   < Archive >   < Files >   < @ Listfiles >   < Path_to_extract \ >

WinRAR can be used to read files/folders to be compressed from list files. We can create a list file such as c: \ backup.txt, write the path of the file/folder to be backed up in this file. The format is very simple, and each path can be a row. Then create a shortcut (or batch file) with the command:

"C: \ Program Files \ WinRAR \ winrar.exe" A c: \ backup.rar @ C: \ backup.txt

You only need to execute this command for backup. This will generate a compressed file after the backup in c: \. You 'd better transfer it to another storage device. In combination with Windows scheduled tasks, you can also perform timed automatic backup. You can also specify other parameters. For example, you can add-ibck to run the backup in the background, and add-t to verify the backup after compression. For details, see the WinRAR help topic.

The disadvantage of this method is that you have to find out the information that needs to be backed up by yourself. Some software keeps the information in the Registry for poor backup, therefore, you may need to manually back up the registry while using this backup method. However, many tools dedicated for backup do not have this function.
