Google CEO Larry Page published an annual review and outlook for the future after the inauguration anniversary (2012 update from CEO ). An important point mentioned in this article is that by understanding your identity and relationships and assigning a possible context to the search term you enter, Google can provide you with more accurate search results, instead of a popular result obtained by page ranking alone.
Understanding identity and relationships can also help us improve search. today, most search results are generic, so two strangers sitting next to each other in a Caf will get very similar answers. yet everyone's life experiences are unique. we are all
Knowledgeable about different things; we have different interests and our preferences-for music, food, vacations, sports, movies, TV shows, and especially people-vary enormously.
Imagine how much better search wocould be if we added... You. say you 've been studying computer science for awhile like me, then the information you need won't be that helpful to a relative novice and vice versa. if you're searching for a participant person,
You want the results for that person-not everyone else with the same name. These are hard problems to solve without knowing your identity, your interests, or the people you care about.
So, how does Google know my identity and relationships? Undoubtedly, as a "Dog powder", I am a heavy Google service user.
- Using Google search, Google knows all my search history;
- Google knows all my browsing history using chrome, including three PCs, one mobile phone and one tablet. The browsing history is automatically synchronized among the five devices;
- Using Gmail and address book, Google understands my emails, telephone contacts, and content of my emails;
- Google + is used to learn who I care about, who cares about me (social relationships outside emails and phone calls), my recent activities, which articles are I interested in (for which articles + 1 );
- Google knows which photos I took when using Google album. If the photos contain location tags and character tags, Google knows where I went and who is closely related;
- Using Google map and location services, Google knows my place of residence and my whereabouts;
- Google Reader is used to learn more about the information and professional directions I am interested in;
- Using Google Calendar, Google understands my schedules and what days are important to me (my birthday, my family's birthday, my wedding anniversary, etc ...)
- Google profile records some of my personal experiences and information;
- Google Play records the information of my Android apps;
- If Google's input method is "evil" enough, it will even know the words I input every moment...
- Okay, I switched my blog from bloger to WordPress...
Well, if Google has smart enough data analysis and mining technology, it can even better understand me than myself. After all, everyone has a certain subjective view of himself. Therefore, this is why Google wants to use the data of a single user in different services in a unified manner. by integrating the data of users in different services, Google can gain a more complete perception of user identities and relationships. (If I do not understand the error, the goal of Google's new privacy policy is to allow Google to use data Scattered across different services in a unified manner)
The above may sound terrible. Should I be worried or even afraid of it? My personal opinion is: first, some of the so-called privacy is not important to most people (including me). On the contrary, more people are willing to publish more information about themselves to attract more attention on social networks. If they are really worried about the disclosure of such information, they should not use Facebook at all, twitter, Weibo, and other services. Second, if you want to obtain a very convenient service, you must allow the service provider to obtain more private information (this information will not be made public on social networks, such as searching history, browsing history, and address book). Compared with other companies, I prefer to trust Google, believe in its professional ethics and security protection capabilities, So Google provides more services, it is better for me to break through the barriers between different services.
