Windows IoT Core is one of Microsoft's key products for the internet of things, and unlike previous versions of Windows, it is designed for IoT devices, and hardware is not limited to the x86 architecture, but can also be run on an arm architecture.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-focused charitable organization that has developed a mini computer Raspberry Pi with an ARM architecture processor for GF enthusiasts and DIY technology fans to achieve success. And Microsoft's latest release of Windows IoT Core also announced support for Raspberry Pi 2.

There are many ways to install WIN10 IoT systems, such as entering commands at the command line.

Let's describe one of the simple ways to install the Windows IoT Core operating system for Raspberry Pi 2 using Microsoft's official installation tool.

Preparatory work:

Raspberry Pi 2

TF Card (>= 8G & Class >= 4)

TF Reader (>= USB2.0)

Computer (>= Win 10)

Visual Studio (Universal Windows APP Development Kit & Windows IoT Core Project Templates)

1. Download images and tools

First go to Microsoft on GitHub's IoT page to download the system image. Address: http://ms-iot.github.io/content/en-US/Downloads.htm

The current WIN10 IoT provides support for three devices, namely Raspberry Pi2, Minnowboard Max, DragonBoard 410c. Here we choose to download the image of Raspberry Pi2.

2. Installing the WIN10 IoT Toolkit

Using WinRAR decompression disc image or virtual optical drive open can see the MSI format inside the installation package, double-click to start the installation.

After the installation is complete, the menu will add two tools, Windows IoT Core Watcher and Windows IoT Image Helper.

3. Brush-Write Win10 IoT image

Insert the TF card you want to write into the card reader and plug the card reader into the USB port of the computer.

Open the Windows IoT Image Helper tool, select the TF reader that we want to write in the first selection box, and the second select the mirrored ffu file to be brushed, the image file is installed by default on C:\Program files (x86) \microsoft Iot\ Ffu\raspberrypi2\flash.ffu, you can also download other versions of the image separately.

Click the Flash button to begin the brush-and-write image. The brush-writing progress is displayed in the console that pops up.

When the brush is complete, the console is automatically closed and a popup box pops up.

4. Start the device

Install the TF card into the TF card slot of the Raspberry Pi 2.

Switch on the monitor, network cable, power start Raspberry.

After entering the Settings screen, select the language you want to use and click the Next button to proceed to the next step.

The current IP address and connected USB device are displayed when you enter the main interface.

5. Build the development environment

Download the Visual Studio 2015 address https://www.visualstudio.com

After the download is complete, install the Universal Windows App Development Kit feature when you install it and use it later to create an IoT project.

VS2015 Select the Extensions and Updates option in the Tools menu after the installation is complete.

In the Search box, enter IoT for search, and in the search results, select the Windows IoT Core Project Templates component installation.

After the installation is complete, open VS 2015 Click New Project in Windows IoT Core, Windows, Visual C #, you can find the item template that we just installed, and now start creating your first Win10 IoT project.
