If you use the ISO file to install the preview version, Windows Media will be removed and you will need to reinstall Windows Media using the Windows 8 Pro package or the Windows 8 Media Center Pack Product key.

If you start your computer from a removable media that you created while downloading ISO, you cannot keep your application, Windows settings, or personal files when you update. There are two ways to install Windows 8.1 Preview: Through the Windows App Store or through ISO.

If you are running a version of Windows 8 that is one of the 13 language versions available in this preview, we strongly recommend that you download this preview version from the Windows application store. When you install from an application store, you cannot create the installation media, and you must download the preview version directly from the Windows application store. If you are running Windows RT, there is only one way to update, that is, through the application store. To find out if you can update through the App Store, see download Windows 8.1 Preview.

　　Warning

• If you are running Windows 8 and you do not use any of the 13 language versions provided in this preview version, you will need to use ISO for installation.

• If you are running Windows 8 Enterprise, you will need to install this preview version with ISO.

If you are running Windows 8 and you want to install Windows 8.1 Preview with ISO, be sure to know where your Windows 8 product key is. When you update to the final version of Windows 8.1, you need to use the Windows 8 product key for activation. To install Windows 8.1 Preview from Windows 8, perform the following steps:

① Download the ISO (. iso) file.

② Double-click the ISO file.

③ Double-click Setup.exe and follow the steps.

If you are running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows7, you can download the ISO image and use it to create a bootable DVD or USB drive for installing Windows 8.1 Preview.

　　Can you uninstall Windows 8.1 Preview?
Uninstalling this preview version is not supported. However, you can restore your entire system to the factory state.

If your computer comes with Windows 8, you can use a computer refresh to restore it to Windows 8. Your personal files will not be affected, but applications that are not included with your computer will need to be reinstalled, and the Windows 8 application store may no longer provide the applications that you installed when using the preview version. If you are running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, you cannot uninstall this preview version. To restore your previous operating system, you need to reinstall from the recovery or installation media (usually DVD media) that came with your computer. If you do not recover the media, you can use the computer manufacturer's software to create the recovery media by using the computer's recovery partition prior to the update. Check the Support section of the computer manufacturer's website for more information. After you install Windows 8.1 Preview, you will not be able to use the recovery partition on your computer to restore the previous version of Windows.

　　Warning: If you are currently using Windows RT, you will not be able to uninstall Windows RT 8.1 Preview. When the final version is released, you will be able to upgrade to the final version of Windows RT 8.1.

If you are running Windows 8 and you are using this preview version of the ISO installation, you will not be able to uninstall it. You will need to reinstall Windows 8 using the restore or installation media that came with your computer. If you do not have recovery media, you can create a USB recovery drive.
