U.S. reports show that tight it budgets are the biggest obstacle to recovery in data center operations. According to Emerson's business brand, "key business fully secure TM" global leader Emerson Network energy and the wave of the Institute of Research, a new study, the data center of accidental power loss per minute can exceed 5,000 U.S. dollars, including income and production losses, data damage and trust of stakeholders to damage caused by the loss, And the losses caused by the corresponding legal liabilities of the enterprise.
In addition, blackouts are not uncommon, according to the study, 95% of U.S. companies in the past two years at least one data center accident, and most of the data center professionals to use inadequate and insufficient investment, hindered the power outage prevention and blackout response time.
Emerson Network Energy and the Institute of Wave-resistant research recently conducted a data center operations study, which is divided into two parts: a survey of more than 450 US data center professionals and an in-depth analysis of 41 industry-wide data centers with an area of at least 2,500 square feet.
The report makes a comprehensive analysis of the direct, indirect and opportunity losses of power outages in data centers. According to the study, for example, a complete power outage in a data center with an average recovery time of 134 minutes could cost about $680,000. For businesses that rely solely on the data Center for IT and network services (for example, telecommunications service providers and E-commerce companies), the maximum loss from a single event can be as high as $1 million (more than $11,000 per minute).
"As key business applications support increased reliance on IT systems," says Dr Larry Pol-Ponemon, founder and director of the Institute for Privacy, data protection and information security Policy Research. A downtime event is now likely to have a significant impact on the profitability of the enterprise (in severe cases, its productivity). In unattended situations, a lack of data center infrastructure will cause frequent downtime and lead to significant economic losses as well as a permanent loss of corporate reputation and customer credibility. ”
Surveys of data center professionals show that lack of resources has prevented them from reducing or responding to blackouts in accordance with their wishes. 57% per cent of respondents believed that all or most of the accidental blackouts could have been avoided, and only 37% per cent believed that if there were an accidental blackout, they had sufficient resources to restore and operate the data center.
"Downtime can have a variety of long-term losses, including direct losses related to the identification and processing of downtime causes and indirect losses associated with disruption of critical business operations," said Peter Panfil, vice president and general manager of Emerson Network Energy North American Exchange Peter Panfiel. Although outage risk minimization may require a upfront capital investment, these investments can be offset by the cost savings of reduced downtime and operational efficiency gains. ”
