Instructions for using off characters in Linux systems

Some of the functions in the shell are implemented by special symbols as control characters, as described above. This creates a problem if a filename contains exactly those characters, such as; , it is difficult to operate on it. Use pager to browse this file

Pager XXX

Pager will soon return an error message because there is no file name for the action object. The shell then reports that there is no XXX command in the system.

This is because the shell will be in the filename; Resolves to execute commands sequentially.

Or your file name starts with a blank space, and in the shell, no matter how many spaces, it will be resolved to a separator character. You did not even rename the file by using the command.

This is the time to use the caret \, which can convert a character with special meaning to ordinary characters. Two tasks above, you can add a \ to each special character in the file name, like this

Pager \;xxx
Pager \ \xxx
Pager \;\ \&\xxx

You can also use "enclose file names, such as pager"; &xxx, "In many cases, this is even more convenient.

The caret can also be used as a line break in the shell. At the end of a command, add a \, and then enter, on the next line, continue with the rest of the command, splitting a command into multiple lines without affecting its execution (if you execute a long command, split it into multiple lines for readability)

In fact, newline characters also conform to the definition of caret. The ENTER key has two meanings, one is execution (Enter), and the other wraps (a polyline arrow). It executes as a control character in the shell, and after using the caret, it wraps the line for the typographic character.
