60. Create a roaming user configuration file in the Windows NT4.0 Network

At present, there are many books on how to create roaming user configuration files in NT, but most of them have many theories and few instances. Even a few examples are not consistent. In view of this situation, the author illustrates the detailed process of creating a roaming user configuration file through a specific example. In this example, the network is an NT network and there is only one domain in the network. The computer name of the master domain controller is "HP" and the operating system is Windows NT Server 4.0; there is a Workstation named "LX" in the domain and the operating system is Windows NT Workstation 4.0. To create a roaming user configuration file for "LX" User Gwy, follow these steps:
Step 1: create a sub-directory User at any location on HP, and create another sub-directory Gwy in the User (of course, it can also be put together with the local User configuration file on HP, for example: \ HP \ Winnt \ Pros \ Gwy), and set the User to share.
Step 2: create an account "Gwy" in the domain User manager, and enter the path "\ HP \ User \ Gwy" in the configuration file path in the configuration file dialog box ". Enter the logon script name in the logon script name. If you do not have any special requirements after logon, leave this option empty. In this example, a self-edited D. BAT file is used to list files in the home directory. Enter "D. BAT" in the login script name and put it in "\ HP \ Winnt \ System32 \ Repl \ Import \ Scripts. Enter "X" to "\ HP \ Winnt" in the home directory ". "X" is the name of the home directory, and "X" is essentially the name of the mapped network drive, which is automatically connected at each login, but be sure not to duplicate the name with any drive on "LX", otherwise it will not work. The "Winnt" item in "\ HP \ Winnt" can be selected as any other directory to be shared, but note that the sharing name is correct. In this example, if "Winnt" is created by the system during installation, it is likely to use the default hidden share name "Admin $ ", in this case, if "Winnt" is used as the shared name, an error is returned, or the connection effect cannot be reached recently.
Step 3: Create a configuration file for "Gwy" in two ways:
Method 1: manually create in \ HP \ User \ Gwy, copy the user configuration file that you think is similar to the target of the "Gwy" configuration file from "\ HP \ Winnt \ Pros \ % Username %" to "\ HP \ user \ Gwy, modify the settings as needed.
Method 2: log on to the "LX" with the "Gwy" account, so that the system creates a set of default user configuration files for "Gwy". After modification, such as wallpaper color, boot menu, desktop settings, shortcuts, and so on. Open "Control Panel", open "System icon", switch to "user configuration file", select "Gwy", and click "copy, in the displayed dialog box, select the "Gwy" folder on "HP" and click OK, "\ LX \ Winnt \ Pros \ Gwy" is copied to "\ HP \ User \ Gwy.
So far, the creation of the configuration file of the roaming user has been completed. Let's give a simple try on how it works. Log out on LX and add a bitmap image to \ HP \ User \ Gwy \ Desktop. Then log on to the "LX" and log on again. After logging on, you will find a DOS running window suddenly exists on the screen, with a row of directories rolling up. Don't be surprised. It's a sub-directory in the "X" (\ HP \ Winnt) Directory of the small login script "D. BAT" in our experiment! After the script is executed, you will find a new bitmap image is displayed on the screen. This is the bitmap image just added to the configuration file of "HP, to set the configuration file as forced, you only need to set "NTUser. dat is renamed as NTUser. man.
