60, the establishment of roaming user profile in Windows NT4.0 network

At present, there are many books about how to build roaming user profiles in NT, but most of them have many theories and few examples, even if there are several examples, they are not coherent. In view of this situation, the author uses a concrete example to explain the detailed process of establishing roaming user profile. In this case the network is NT network, only one domain in the network, the primary domain controller's computer name is "HP", the operating system is Windows NT Server 4.0; There is a station in the domain named "LX", the operating system is Windows NT Workstation 4.0, now want to " LX users Gwy Create a roaming user profile with the following steps:
Step one: Create a subdirectory user in any location on HP, and then create another subdirectory in user Gwy (or, of course, with the local user profile on HP, such as: \\HP\Winnt\Pros\Gwy), and set user to shared.
Step Two: Create an Account "Gwy" on the domain User Manager, and then fill in the path in the profile path of its Profile dialog box: "\\HP\User\Gwy". Enter the login script name in the logon script name and, if there is no special requirement after login, this item may not be filled in. To experiment with its effect, this example uses a D.bat file that lists the files in the host directory. In the login script name, insert: "D.bat" and place it in "\hp\winnt\system32\repl\import\scripts". Fill in the Host directory: Connect "X" to "\\HP\Winnt". where "X" is the name of the host directory, "X" is essentially the mapped network drive name, automatically connected each time you log on, but be careful not to duplicate any of the drives on "LX". The "Winnt" item in "\\HP\Winnt" can optionally be any other directory that needs to be shared, but be aware of the correctness of the share name. In this example, if "Winnt" is created by the system at installation time, it is most likely to use the default hidden share name "admin$", which means that if you use "Winnt" as your share name, you will get an error, or you may not have been able to reach the connection recently.
Step three: To create a profile for "Gwy", you can use two methods:
Method One: Create it manually in "\\HP\User\Gwy", and copy the user profile that you think is similar to the target you want the "Gwy" profile to achieve from "\\HP\Winnt\Pros\%Username%" to "\\HP\User\Gwy", and make appropriate changes according to your own needs.
Method two: On "LX" with "Gwy" account login, so the system will create a set of default user profiles for "Gwy", after appropriate modifications, such as wallpaper color, boot menu, desktop settings, shortcuts and so on. When you reach your requirements, open the Control Panel. Open the System icon, switch to the User Profile tab, select Gwy, click the Copy To button, select the Gwy folder on HP in the pop-up dialog box, and click OK to \\LX\Winnt\Pros\Gwy is copied into the "\\HP\User\Gwy".
Now that the profile of the roaming user is set up, let's have a quick look at how it works. First log off on "LX", and then add a bitmap image to the \\HP\User\Gwy\ desktop. Then log back on "LX," and you'll notice that there's a single DOS run window on the screen, and a row of directories is scrolling up. Don't be surprised, that's one of our experiments. The small login Script "D.bat" lists subdirectories in its host directory "X" (that is, \\HP\Winnt)! After the logon script executes, you will notice that a new bitmap image appears on the screen, which is the "HP" Configuration file on the just added to the bitmap image, if you want to make the configuration file mandatory, simply "HP" in the "Gwy" folder in the "NTUser.dat" renamed to "Ntuser.man" can be.
