Windows faults are various and annoying, but most of them are caused by user operation errors. In this article, we summarize and analyze 18 common Windows faults, the corresponding solutions are proposed.
Fault 1: it takes too long to display the blue sky and white clouds

Fault symptom:When Windows is started, the blue sky and white clouds are displayed. The display time is generally about half a minute, and then the Windows 9X desktop is displayed. However, some users often report that their computers are started for up to two times ~ 3 minutes. How did this happen?

Fault analysis:When the blue sky and white clouds are displayed, the system is mainly executing Config. sys, Autoexec. bat and Win. ini, System. if there are too many auto-start options in the above files, the startup speed of the system will be greatly affected. In addition, a bad track on the disk and viruses in the system may also affect the system startup speed.

Solution:First check Autoexec. bat file, check whether there is a relatively time-consuming DOS program command line, such as the newly launched Kingsoft drug overlord, use Autoexec. bat file checks the entire Windows directory at startup), and then checks Win. ini, System. ini and startup options in the registry. If the startup options in these files are canceled and the fault persists, you should suspect that the system has been infected with the virus and check and kill the virus. If the cause of the virus is also ruled out, we should consider the disk failure. First, perform a full scan of the disk, check whether there is a bad track in the hard disk, then run the disk fragment program, eliminate disk fragments, and finally run the disk cleanup program to clear junk files in the computer. After the above operations, the system startup speed will be greatly improved.

Fault 2: The double-click operation is invalid.

Fault symptom:In the Windows window, the mouse clicking and dragging operations are valid, but you cannot start the application by double-clicking the mouse.

Fault analysis:This fault occurs because you have no intention to set the time interval for double-clicking the mouse too short. As a result, the system regards the double-clicking operation as two consecutive click operations. We only need to adjust the speed of double-clicking the mouse to solve this problem.

Solution:Go to the control panel of Windows 9X, select the "Mouse" option, right-click, and select the "open" command in the pop-up menu to enable the mouse setting function. In the "Mouse properties" dialog box, select the "button" tab and move the slider in "double-click speed" to the left, adjust the speed of Windows 9X by double-clicking the mouse. You can test the speed in the "test area" next to it to adapt it to your own operation speed.

Fault 3: The physical optical drive cannot be found in the DOS environment

Fault symptom:In Windows 9X, the optical drive works normally. However, the physical optical drive cannot be found in the DOS environment.

Fault analysis:This is mainly because users do not know how to use non-standard hardware devices in the DOS environment. In a DOS environment, drivers must be added for any non-standard hardware devices. Otherwise, the corresponding hardware devices cannot be found.

Solution:Install the corresponding optical drive driver.

Fault 4. Hard loop caused by disk fragmentation

Fault symptom:The disk fragment program of Windows 9X is used to fragment the disk, and the program is in an endless loop when it reaches 10%.

Fault analysis:1% ~ of disk fragmentation ~ The 10% phase is to check whether the driver has errors and read the driver information. The 10% phase is followed by the actual disk fragmentation. The system always goes into an endless loop after 10%, mostly because the memory resident program, such as anti-virus software and screen saver, interferes with normal disk scanning, making the program unable to run normally, thus forming an endless loop.

Solution:Shut down the memory resident program before organizing disk fragments. If the disk fragmentation still fails after these memory resident programs are canceled, SCANDISK should be used to perform a full check including a surface test on the disk) to eliminate the possibility of disk failure.

Failure 5. Incomplete configuration items in "Control Panel"

Fault symptom:Go to "Control Panel" and find that some configuration items are missing.

Fault analysis:There are two main causes of the fault: one is that the user is in the CONTROL. "*. cpl = no "command to disable the display of these control icons; second, the corresponding system settings file (. CPL file) does not exist.

Solution:First, open CONTROL in the Windows directory. INI file, find the [don't load] section. If the corresponding "*. cpl = no "command line shows that the fault is caused by the first reason. We only need to replace these "*. cpl = no "command line deletion can solve the problem. If the "*. cpl = no" command is not found in the [don't load] section, the setting items in the system "Control Panel" are incomplete because the corresponding. CPL file does not exist. The simplest solution is to copy these. CPL files to the Windows \ SYSTEM directory on the same computer of other Windows versions. In addition, we can also use the "System File Checker" of Windows to restore the required CPL files.

Fault 6. Unable to install GBK Input Method

Fault symptom:When trying to use the GBK Input Method to input Chinese characters in a large character set, it was found that the GBK input method was not provided in Windows 98, even if the system's "add Input Method" function could not be added.

Fault analysis:This is not because Windows 98 does not provide the GBK Input Method for users, but Windows 98 combines the common input method used to input common text in Windows 95 with the dedicated GBK input method. We can use these combined input methods to directly input any character in the GBK character set. However, because there are too many characters in the big character set, the GBK input method has many duplicate codes. To speed up user input, Windows 98 provides a GB2312 and GBK switching switch for these input methods, normally, we can turn off the GBK switch to reduce the duplicate code. If necessary, we can turn on the GBK switch to enter the GBK character set.

Solution:Call up an input method that can enter GBK Chinese characters, such as "Full PinYin Input Method"), right-click the "Input Method status bar", select the "Settings" option in the pop-up menu, and bring up the "Input Method Settings" dialog box, select "GBK" option 2 from the "Search Character Set" box.

Fault 7: The system always first opens the Chinese Character Input Method

Fault symptom:After Windows 9X is started, the input method icon in the system tray is not a common icon, but a Chinese Character Input Method icon.

Fault analysis:This is because the user mistakenly sets a certain Chinese Input Method to the default input method. We only need to restore the System Default Input Method to the English input method to solve the problem.

Solution:Right-click the "Input Method" icon in the system tray, select the "properties" command in the pop-up menu, and select the "language" tab in the "keyboard properties" setting box, select the "En English" Input Method in the "language" list box and click "set to default.

Fault 8: Helps file directories become garbled

Fault symptom:After entering Windows 98, the Chinese characters in the Help directory are all changed to garbled characters. However, after you click the help directory to enter the text of the Help file, the displayed content is completely normal.

Fault analysis:This is a fault that occurs after the traditional Chinese character library is installed in IE.

Solution:Reinstall the Simplified Chinese font in IE.

Fault 9: compression disk loss

Fault symptom:Use the disk compression function provided by Windows 9X to compress the disk. However, sometimes the compressed disk cannot be found after entering the system, no matter from the "Resource Manager" or "My Computer" or the doscommand line.

Fault analysis:Because the computer is private, the possibility of manually deleting the compressed volume file stored on the host disk of the compressed disk is ruled out. According to your own experience, it is suspected that the system data of the compressed disk is deleted by mistake. After confirming this, you only need to manually restore the compressed data to restore the compressed disk.

Solution:Click Start/Program/attachment/system tools/disk space management to start the disk space management program for Windows 9X, select the host disk of the compressed disk from the "Drive of this computer" list box. If you compress a New Compressed disk E in disk D, then, run the "advanced" menu "assembly" command to compress the original compressed volume file on the d disk to the compressed disk, to restore the lost compressed disk. However, if the compressed volume file in the host disk is also deleted, it is hopeless.

Fault 10: cannot use a certain font in Word or WPS

Fault symptom:No installed fonts can be found in the font list boxes of applications such as Word and Excel in Office 97, WPS 97, WPS 2000, and other applications, text fonts cannot be set in these applications, but there are no problems with applications such as WordPad, notepad, and Outlook Express.

Fault analysis:This is mainly because the user installed AutoCAD, leading to printing driver errors, resulting in all the applications that directly call the printing driver, such as Word, Excel, WPS) failure. But notepad and other applications do not directly call the print driver, so everything is normal.

Solution:Reinstall and install the print driver.
