Both MobiLink and SQL Remote can provide data replication between a unified database and a group of Remote databases.

The unified database contains all the data to be copied. A remote database is a copy of a unified database. It can be located on the same site as a unified database, or on a physical remote site.

Remote User

The replication system includes many remote databases. Each remote database contains part of the unified database information. Each remote database is a separate physical database, usually located on different computers. All remote databases must be consistent with the unified database.

The entire replication system can be considered as a distributed database, and all master copies of shared data can be stored in the unified database.

Each remote site that submits copies to the unified database can be considered as a remote user of the unified database. If the remote site is a multi-user server, the whole site can be considered as a remote user of the unified database.

Hierarchical Database Configuration

Configure the parent database for the hierarchy, except for the unified database, which does not have the parent database.

Hierarchical Database Configuration

SQL Remote supports database hierarchy configuration, but does not support peer-to-peer replication or other non-hierarchical configuration. Generally,

It is configured for any two databases that directly share data in the hierarchies configuration. One database is always above or below the other database.

A remote database can contain tables not in a unified database, provided that the tables are not involved in replication. SQL Remote requires that the table name and column name in the Remote database match the table name and column name in the unified database. Instead, MobiLink allows remote databases and unified databases to store data in different columns and tables, improving flexibility.

Bidirectional Replication

All Sybase Replication technologies provide two-way replication: the changes made in the unified database are propagated to the remote database, and the changes made in the remote database are propagated to the unified database, then spread from the unified database to other remote databases. Sybase Replication Server requires that only one data entry be modified in one location. SQL Remote and MobiLink allow changing the same data in multiple locations at the same time and provide a solution to any conflict.
