Experts suggested that Microsoft should cut off the separate upgrade of IE and Windows bundle

On August 1, Beijing time, according to foreign media reports, Wolfgang Kandek, Technical Director of Qualys, a network security company, said on Wednesday that Microsoft should cut off contact between IE browser and Windows operating system, to better protect users' network security.

Qualys, after investigating the data of hundreds of thousands of computers owned by its enterprise customers, found that the IE vulnerability fixing speed is basically the same as that of other software. Kandek said that in order to improve the speed of IE vulnerability fixing, Microsoft should completely disconnect IE from the Windows system, and then increase the IE upgrade frequency, and withdraw some or even all of the IE control from the user's hands.

After the connection between IE and Windows is disconnected, Windows Update cannot be performed, because all updates of Microsoft are currently performed through IE. However, Kandek said that the computer system would be better protected. Kandek also said that the speed at which Microsoft updates IE once a month is far from enough and must be increased to the same update frequency as Firefox or Google Chrome.

Currently, Firefox notifies its users when releasing any new security updates so that they can download and install the latest updates. In addition, Google has set Automatic Updates for its Chrome browser, so that users can upgrade the security protection level without notice. Kandek believes that Microsoft can also adopt similar practices for all Internet Explorer users. It is recommended that Microsoft try to disconnect the browser from the operating system starting with the release of Internet Explorer 8.

This proposal by Kandek is likely to receive help from the European Union. In the latest investigation against Microsoft, the European Commission accused Microsoft of bundling Internet Explorer with Windows, leading to unfair competition in the browser market, and damage to products of Firefox, apple, and other companies.

According to Internet research institute Net Applications published in January this year, the internet Internet market share is still as high as 68%.
